What I love about being a board member of The Clean Fight is that these incredibly smart and dedicated individuals (mostly women, btw) get into the gnarly and critical barriers to scale for the technology solutions they are working with. In this new cohort, it is a focus on #EnergyStorage. This slide is a classic example of their work. If you are in real estate in New York, please help us scale these critical decarbonization technologies! And stay tuned for important lessons learned!

“The tech world can be intimidating, especially for women, but don’t let anyone make you second-guess your instincts,” says climate tech founder, Rana Hajirasouli. She started The Surpluss | Certified B Corp, the world’s first B2B platform for sharing surplus resources. “That’s the vision behind The Surpluss – to reallocate excess resources in an efficient way to help businesses thrive, not just survive,” says Rana. Her advice to women is not to shy away from taking up space and expressing their opinions, even if it is against the grain. “I believe in failure when we are just paying lip service to sustainability. For me, it is about integrity—knowing I didn’t cut corners to get there," she says. To find out more about her inspiring journey and her challenges, read our Q&A: https://lnkd.in/dXvRrMWx

I am keenly aware that the problems of the world will not be solved by nonprofits alone, nor by governments. As the U.S. continues to show, governments often prioritize profit and power over humanity and the planet. The same can be said for much of the private sector. Yet, paradoxically, I also know that solving the climate crisis and emerging as a green, equitable, and just planet will require all of these sectors working together. True systems change demands that we embrace the uncomfortable truth: the structures that exist today were never designed to work for everyone. They were not built for equity, sustainability, or justice. But that doesn’t mean they cannot be reimagined. Change will not come through incremental adjustments or siloed efforts. It will take bold collaboration, a willingness to challenge the status quo, and a relentless exercise of imagining and reimagining what is possible. At Pyxera Global, we are doing this work every day. We are building bridges between governments, corporations, and communities to create solutions that address the root causes of systemic inequities. We understand that the power of transformation lies in the connections we forge and the partnerships we build. It is these connections that will create the cracks in the walls that oppress us—cracks where light and possibility can break through. To truly shift systems, we need collaborators—innovators, dreamers, and doers—who are willing to stand at the intersection of ambition and action. Together, we can reimagine what our future looks like. Together, we can create a planet that prioritizes people, protects the environment, and upholds justice. If this vision resonates with you, let’s talk. Let’s partner. Because the work ahead is urgent, and we cannot do it alone. #SystemsChange #ClimateAction #Equity #Sustainability #Partnerships #Davos #WEF25 #Collaboration #BelovedCommunity #PyxeraGlobal #ImaginingTheFuture

🎉 For the next few weeks I will be only be introducing my company as "Carbon13, winnerofGrowthInvestorAwardsTeamoftheYearforInvestingInWomen" This is now my second favourite moment at Carbon13, right after that first time we closed applications to that first Venture Builder in 2020 and we could see just how many amazing people were putting their trust in us to help them build a startup that could change the world for the better. And so many amazing women ⚡ Women like Sarah Montgomery of Infyos, Marcela Flores of Tierra-Foods , Kelly Price and Sarah Power of Agreed Earth and more. But this award is for activities in just the last 18 months where we really worked hard and intentionally to increase the potential for investing in more female founders. This is an award for a Team, and there's not one person at Carbon13 who wasn't involved in this. We're now at 65% of our investments having at least one female founder, in 2024 alone, our investments including Berlin 1 and Venture Launchpad 3 all have at least one female founder. There's too many for me to tag! But as a sample there's Sandra Astete Morales, PhD of Climalyst, Elizabeth Lee of Carbon Cell, Karishma Gupta of Eslando. Our current Venture Builder cohorts have the highest participation of women yet, hitting 38% for Berlin Cohort 3. Whereas in the rest of the industry, Atomico's State Of European Tech 2024 report has investment in women at single digits and DECREASING yoy, even at pre-seed level. 📉 Yet our work shows there's no shortage of remarkable women building the future. Thank you to the Growth Investor Awards and Investing In Women Code for highlighting the investors that fund women.
And the winner for our first Investing in Women Awards: Team of the Year trophy goes to... Carbon13🥂 🥳 🎉 Carbon13, based in Cambridge and Berlin, empowers climate-tech startups to combat the climate crisis. With 72 investments since 2021 and a collective potential to reduce 500 million tonnes of CO2 by 2040, Carbon13 champions diversity, supporting female founders through tailored initiatives, mentorship, and partnerships with corporates like Siemens Energy Ventures and Arm. Awarded in partnership with British Business Bank #GrowthInvestorAwards #ImpactBeyondInvestment

Not just lunch. Women are turning it up a notch at CLEANPOWER. It’s an indication of where things are going. I’ve been attending CLEANPOWER by the American Clean Power Association (ACP) for many years. I’m approaching the ability to claim decades (plural…). Not only have I seen the transition of the event from the wind-focused AWEA, but I have also seen the change in the makeup of the room. For so many years, you could look at and see a mass of blue and black suits. Picking out the women was easy and hard because there were so few. However, more women joined renewables, and the ratio improved. As WOWE developed as a place for women, they created a luncheon during AWEA. WOWE became Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE) but the luncheon remained for the past few years. But this year, something different happened. ACP developed the EmpowerHER Forum. It’s not just a luncheon. It’s not just a few minutes in the day for people to talk and move on. It’s dedicated content, created to guide women and led by other pioneering women. I think this is a sign we’re moving away from just talking about the problem and toward providing tools to women for success. It raises the bar and gives other organizations a line in the sand. We need dialogue, but we also need to move beyond it. This is a fantastic next step. I can’t wait to attend. If you’re going to Cleanpower next week, I hope you will attend and that I’ll see you at EmpowerHER as well. PS: Here's an old lanyard from AWEA 2011.
