#Biotechnology dating back to ancient times with practices like fermentation, the use of enzymes and yeast, has always played a crucial role in our #food system. The Biotech4Food project granted under the #I3instrument has the ambition to re-enforce the use of biotech in the agri-food system in creating a more resilient and circular #Europe. To facilitate this endeavor and support companies in adopting biotech solutions, the team has prepared a survey in different languages to gather valuable insights. Your input is crucial ! ⚪️ Excited to present the EPACAT – the European Protein Advancement Center of Catalonia project, in partnership with Hub de la Bioeconomia de Catalunya [BioHubCat] at Alimentaria Barcelona. This innovative facility is poised to meet the growing demands for scaling alternative protein solutions and to transform the bioeconomy sector, aligning with Catalonia's 2030 Bioeconomy Strategy. During Alimentaria, we engaged with numerous local and international stakeholders, building pivotal collaborations for EPACAT's journey. Discussions around the plant's PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model with several private investment funds were particularly fruitful, underscoring the strong interest in supporting the project. ◻️ This initiative highlights the power of a well-connected ecosystem to drive forward the food industry. ➖ #Alimentaria2024 #AlimentariaHostelco2024 #AgrifoodEcosystem

⚡ In a keynote address at today’s Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit, GFI Founder and President Bruce Friedrich highlighted the opportunities for large-scale transformation of food systems in Asia, citing Singapore as a crucial linchpin in unlocking protein diversification's economic and food security potential. 🐄 Despite the fact that conventional meat production is highly inefficient and environmentally taxing, global meat consumption is projected to rise significantly in the coming decades. 📈 Alternative proteins, such as plant-based and cultivated meat, could sustainably satisfy this soaring demand while dramatically reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and land and water use. ✅ However, scientific and supply chain challenges have hindered alternative proteins’ mainstream adoption. ☀️ 🔋 Friedrich drew parallels to the early days of the renewable energy sector, highlighting how Asian innovation and government support rapidly accelerated solar and EV battery tech and created a template for strategic public-private investments that can now be employed to drive alternative protein breakthroughs. 👀 Keep a close eye out for more updates like this from Singapore International Agri-Food Week throughout this week! Does everyone in the #cocoa supply chain benefit from #transparency? As part of the 5-year programme RECLAIM Sustainability!, our programme partner Fairfood is on a mission to investigate the intersection of transparency and fairer distribution of incomes in international value chains, hereby working on digitizing multiple cocoa and #coffee supply chains. This newly published report delves into how this connection unfolds in two agricultural powerhouses, Uganda and Sierra Leone. It aims to investigate questions such as: What is the value of #traceability for farmers, cooperatives, buyers, and traders at the first mile of our food system? Is the technology generating meaningful use, or is it merely being used? The insights from this report will be imperative to work on further enhancing traceability and inclusivity, and improving farmer livelihoods. This study has been conducted jointly with Solidaridad East and Central Africa and other stakeholders in Sierra Leone and Uganda. The recent B2B conference between Tanzania and Iran marked a significant step towards enhancing collaboration in the agro-business sector. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices and increasing food security in our regions. We identified numerous investment opportunities in areas such as crop production, processing, and technology transfer, which will benefit both economies. The meeting facilitated valuable discussions on best practices and innovative solutions, paving the way for joint ventures and partnerships. By leveraging each other's markets, we @tanspiceagri aim to enhance trade flows, providing Tanzanian products access to Iranian markets and vice versa. We believe that this collaboration will not only boost our agro-business sectors but also strengthen the economic ties between Tanzania and Iran. We look forward to the fruitful outcomes of our partnership.
