Inspiring the next generation with Work Aware 🌟 By organising visits to different parts of the city, the Work Aware initiative aims to broaden young people's understanding - especially those at risk of disconnecting from their educational journeys - of potential job roles and work environments they might not have previously considered. It's an opportunity for them to gain insights into the practical aspects of working life and to envision a future filled with possibilities 👨🎓👷♀️ This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming 10 young individuals to our Glasgow office, in collaboration with our partner, QTS Group. The day was filled with meaningful conversations, where our team members, including Alan William Beebe MAPM EngTech MICE, an Associate Project Manager with 23 years at COWI, shared their personal career stories, offered a glimpse into our operations, and provided practical advice on job applications. “I was delighted to be asked to present 'My Career Journey So Far' as I have had first-hand experience of starting an apprenticeship straight from school while still trying to discover the correct career path for myself. I think my ever-developing career journey within COWI shows the progression that can be made and the rewards that are possible once you find a career that you enjoy doing and have the support of your organisation and colleagues,” said Alan. Through initiatives like Work Aware, we're committed to guiding the next generation towards fulfilling careers by exposing them to the wealth of opportunities that await. 💡 We Want to Hear From You Did you have a defining moment or mentor that influenced your career path? We’d love for you to share your experiences in the comments below. Let’s create a space for inspiration and shared learning. #WorkAware #EmpoweringYouth #COWI #QTS #CareerJourney #DYW #FutureReady

Any new initiative will inevitably face criticism as soon as it is implemented.⛔ When I made the decision to take a year's leave of absence to live abroad through a student exchange programme, I received a great deal of criticism, including: - "Are you not too old to participate in an exchange programme?" - "You're making a rather rash decision! You're going to give up everything you've achieved to live an adventure!" In 2006, at the age of 27, I made the decision to undertake an exchange programme. I held a Bachelor's Degree, was already employed in a multinational company, received a competitive salary and was progressing well in my career. In short, I was in a strong position. However, the aspiration to gain international experience was a strong driving force within me. It was challenging to implement this plan. The negative feedback I received caused me to question my abilities at various points. Nevertheless, I was compelled to place my trust in the project and maintain my focus on the objective. I subsequently spent one year in Sydney, Australia, on a student exchange programme. I was enrolled on a degree programme in Business and employed part-time as a cashier in a fast-food chain. I made use of my time off to travel around Australia and New Zealand, meeting people from a wide range of backgrounds. I returned to Brazil with a bag full of learning and memorable experiences. The Camila who left was not the same person who returned. Today I am certain that I made the best decision and If you are facing a similar crossroads, trust your instincts and take that leap! I would love to hear about the challenges you have overcome or the decisions that shaped your journey. Let’s connect and share our experiences! 🌍😎 #projects #careergrowth #internationalexperience #overcomingchallenges

Day Three Complete with Bright Network! 🚀 This morning, we had keynotes and building mental resilience in challenging times talk with Sara Jones who works as a mobile operations director for the BT Group. Sara told us about her windy road to be becoming a director with BT Group, Sara Jones explained her journey through graduate schemes and different jobs with failure and learning along the way. 🛣 Key notes to take away: - Change is adaptable. ☘ - Have a hunger to learn when moving into a career. 💻 - Take those jumps, get out your comfort zone and challenge those challenges. 💡 - Challenges and failure does not define you, its about how you deal with them and how you adapt. 🖋 - Take time to reflect on the past and be proud of yourself, furthermore, look at what you can improve. 🤞 - Hard work pays off. 🏋♂️ - Failure is good, the most successful people have dealt with failure. It’s all about how you adapt, change and respond to the failure. 💬 - Stay open minded. 👏 - Work hard. ✍ - Be kind. 🤗 Throughout the rest of the morning and afternoon it was our time to focus on our work samples for British Airways Better World Project. This project consists of creating a pitch for a new partnership that aligns to British Airways sustainability strategy. Tomorrow we hand our work samples into Bright Network and then receive our Certificates, I can't believe how lucky I have been to be able to experience this internship and work with so many amazing companies.

✌🏽IT'S A GOOD DAY TO HAVE A GOOD DAY - SOPPY I LOVE MY JOB POST ALERT✌🏽 I've been a little quieter on the posting front recently...but I've just been so busy 🤯🤯🤯. My mum told me when I was younger, to enjoy life because when you get older it FLIES BY. Christ she was NOT WRONG 😂 I mean how is it the middle of April already?!?! Anyway, the new financial year appears to be prime time for many companies to be investing in new hires and CPD for the current teams! I've had some incredible conversations with companies of all sizes this week looking to either welcome new tech and digital apprentices to the team or improving their CPD strategy through a collaboration with Baltic🎉. It's refreshing to hear so many business owners and HR professionals so invested in creating a positive and inclusive culture within their business and I'm so excited for some of the plans I'm running through with my customers! CEMS - The Global Alliance in Management Education student in Exchange at Nova School of Business and Economics: one month in. 🏫🇵🇹 My first month as an exchange student from University College Dublin to Nova School of Business and Economics is coming to an end, and I’ve taken some time to reflect on the beginning of my CEMS experience. As I share my journey from engineering to top-tier business administration, here’s what you can expect from a similar path, and my key learnings so far: ⏬ 1️⃣ You'll always be busy: Between classes, group projects, presentations, guest lectures, career fairs, and more, it’s really hard to get bored. It’s all about efficiently managing your workload, which may not be overwhelming but is very diverse. This variety requires different types of skills and focus. 📚✨ ✅ Main learning: Workload management is key: balance is not just about handling tasks, but about handling the right tasks effectively. 2️⃣ Focus on choosing the right opportunities: When opportunities abound, the real challenge is selecting the right ones. Personally, as a naturally curious person, I’d love to explore many more things than a 24-hour day allows. However, this course teaches you to recognize the most valuable opportunities and focus on those. 🎯🔍 ✅ Main learning: Prioritizing wisely means being selective with your time and energy, maximizing the value of every opportunity. 3️⃣ Weeks are hard, but weekends are harder: Weekends should be for rest, but they can be even more intense than the weekdays. Here in Lisbon, there’s always an unmissable party or event, and after some quiet months in Switzerland, I have to admit I appreciate this more social, lively atmosphere. 🎉🌆 ✅ Main learning: Taking time off is essential, but knowing when to fully rest is just as important: balance isn’t just for study, it’s for life! Jokes aside, I hope these quick reflections were helpful. I’ve never felt so stimulated and energized, and I’m looking forward to starting my second month as a CEMSie with a bit more awareness of what’s ahead. 🚀🤓 #CEMS #businessadministration #engineering #exchance #portugal #lisbon
