Report: Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine Joins Hands with Healthy India Alliance The Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM) has officially joined the Healthy India Alliance (HIA), marking a significant step forward in the country's efforts to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promote preventive healthcare. This collaboration between ISLM, a leading advocate for lifestyle-based interventions, and HIA, a national network committed to strengthening public health, is poised to create a more comprehensive approach to health policy development in India. The partnership is expected to amplify the focus on lifestyle medicine, which emphasizes diet, physical activity, stress management, and behavior modification as critical components in preventing and managing NCDs such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and hypertension. By leveraging the expertise of both organizations, this alliance will play a pivotal role in influencing health policies aimed at reducing the burden of NCDs and improving the overall health and well-being of the Indian population. As the prevalence of NCDs continues to rise, this collaboration comes at a crucial time, positioning ISLM and HIA to drive policy changes that prioritize sustainable, preventive healthcare models. Their joint efforts are anticipated to not only shape public health strategies but also raise awareness and foster a culture of healthy living across India. https://lnkd.in/gMaWxZp3

MSSE FEATURED ARTICLE OF THE MONTH ⭐ In 'Relationships of Total and Domain-Specific Moderate-to-Vigorous Physical Activity with All-Cause and Disease Specific Mortality', Kikuchi and colleagues used cohort data from 81,601 community-dwelling Japanese adults to investigate the dose-response relationships of total and domain-specific MVPA (i.e. leisure-time MVPA [LT-MVPA] and work-related MVPA [WT-MVPA]) with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Health benefits were observed at low levels of MVPA and up to 10 METs-h/day. While the fine threshold for excessive MVPA remains unclear, exceeding guidelines by double or triple did not increase mortality risk. Furthermore, the inverse association between LT-MVPA and mortality risks was more evident at lower WT-MVPA levels. Based on these findings, encouraging MVPA at leisure time is a key strategy for the working population, especially for those in sedentary jobs. Full text available here: https://brnw.ch/21wHSfu

📢 Exciting News! 🎉 Thrilled to announce the publication of our latest medical article alongside the esteemed Dr. Callum Leese & Dr Blair Smith! 📄✨ Our article explores whether tackling a single lifestyle intervention or simultaneous interventions is more impactful. There is an escalating global burden of lifestyle-related diseases, which significantly contribute to chronic conditions and premature mortality. Despite the proven benefits of lifestyle interventions targeting physical inactivity, nutrition, alcohol, and smoking, these are still underutilised in primary healthcare settings. We delve into the intricate interrelations of these lifestyle factors, exploring effective strategies for integrating multiple interventions. What did we find? While simultaneous approaches for physical activity and nutrition show promise, smoking cessation might benefit from a sequential strategy. We also advocate for a holistic framework that includes sleep, mental well-being, and social connectedness, aligning with the World Health Organisation’s recommendations. The evidence on delivering these interventions together is limited, underscoring the need for further research and clinical guidance. To overcome barriers in primary care, innovative solutions such as using non-medical personnel, social prescribers, and health coaches, along with group consultations, are critical. Join us in exploring these vital strategies for promoting healthy lifestyles and improving global health outcomes! 🌍❤️ To read the full article: https://lnkd.in/evVGHREu Royal College of General Practitioners British Society of Lifestyle Medicine Red Whale parkrun

A new study by Mark Fendrick et al. explores more affordable obesity care with GLP-1, and here are our takeaways: 💸 Switching to cheaper weight maintenance programs after initial weight loss with expensive medications like GLP-1 can reduce lifetime healthcare spending. 🏋️ These cheaper programs might not be as powerful as full-dose GLP-1 treatments, but they still help keep the weight off and improve heart health. 👥 This approach makes sure that more people can benefit from initial weight loss treatments without spending too much. The study shows that cheaper weight maintenance programs save money but give fewer health benefits. This makes us ask: should we sacrifice efficacy for affordability, or try to make GLP-1 more affordable? It's also crucial to tailor these alternative programs to each person since everyone responds differently to weight loss treatments. Plus, we should focus on building lasting healthy habits for long-term health, reduced medication reliance and better obesity management.
