Preventive health care is at the core of #valuebasedcare. Preventive strategies, of course, encompass many things, from screenings for conditions like colorectal cancer, to exercise, nutrition and habits that contribute to overall vitality. As doctors, we should embrace and encourage all of them given their direct impact on patient health. But value-based approaches and the preventive measures and actions that are directly linked to them also contribute meaningful, and often transformative improvements to the business of #healthcare. At @CareAllies, we are privileged to see just how impactful preventive measures are on both fronts – witnessing firsthand the singular impact they have on patient health outcomes as well as the practices, hospitals and health systems that encourage them. At its core, this is why #valuebasedcare represents such a win-win for all involved, and for our great nation. https://lnkd.in/ga6VhKQD News Medical

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is one of the leading causes of death and hospitalizations globally and in the UK. Remote monitoring of COPD relies on using various devices such as pulse oximeters, inhalers and various apps with the aim of helping patients manage their condition in the comfort of their own home and preventing deterioration in health. However, evidence is lacking on how best to implement remote monitoring so that it helps patients, reduces inequalities in health outcomes for patients and supports decision-making bodies such as NHS England in preparing for increased demands for health care services in winter. As part of the new NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) DECIDE Centre for rapid evaluation, RAND Europe, together with the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences - University of Oxford, will consider what works, how, why and when in remote monitoring for COPD patients to help provide evidence that can inform the best possible decisions for patient care.
