But what if someone tries to democratise this and instead of premiumising play the volume game in the market like India? Imagine owning a car, telephone, mobile, internet, air travel used to be a symbol of #luxury which today with innovation, competition and breaking the cost barriers have been democratised. Maruti, BSNL, Reliance, Jio, Air Deccan did exactly this. The market expanded, consumers got wide choice and inefficiencies were eliminated. Something similar happening in Diamond Markets globally and now in India as well. With #LabGrownDiamonds, consumers get the exact same or better choice at fractional cost. In the era of #FastFashion, everyone wants to try new at short intervals so the cost is a big parameter to meet higher frequency. Trent has launched its LGD brand 'POME' through Westside stores. With 100% private labels in Zudio and Westside, #POME shall align not only with value conscious, young, trendy and experimental customer segments of Trent but also with its business model. Tanishq can leverage the transition phase to build leadership in #NaturalDiamonds since with lower output and low investment, the scarcity, snob and desire value of mines diamonds shall increase further. This also keeps #Tanishq brand clean without any doubts in customer mind w.r.t. natural or lab diamonds. Once Trent establishes the 'POME', Tanishq may latch on to it. The market will eventually consolidate with one with better brand, design, customer trust and scale as prices will also stabilise with capacities going live and novelty factor is over for new entrants. Normally incumbents with better staying power and one who joins last to the party eventually win. This is a very clever strategy by the new chairman of Tata Group Noel Tata who has built Trent Ltd grounds up. This will definitely be #Zudio of diamonds.
