SenateSHJ and WhitlamCo. had the pleasure of co-hosting a roundtable with Basil Towers, Principal at Tie-Stone. Basil co-founded and taught for nine years at the Corporate Affairs Academy at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Basil shared his research on how organisations become worthy of trust, and how trust can create competitive difference and advantage. The roundtable was conducted under the Chatham House Rule, but here’s a taste of what we discussed, in conversation with Anna Whitlam.

Exciting News! 🌍✨ The Black Innovation Alliance (BIA) partners with the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration (ITA)! We are thrilled to announce our strategic partnership with the ITA, marking a significant step towards amplifying the global presence of Black-owned businesses and fostering equitable economic growth. This collaboration is a monumental opportunity for Black entrepreneurs to break into international markets and scale their businesses. Historically, Black-owned businesses have been underrepresented in the global market. Only 2.9% of these businesses export goods and services, compared to 4.7% of non-minority firms. Despite this disparity, the potential for growth and impact is immense. In 2021 alone, Black-owned businesses sold over $1billion worth of goods to 60 countries. Economic Benefits of Exporting Exporting offers significant benefits for businesses of all sizes: - Access to Global Markets: Increases sales and profits by opening new markets. - Risk Mitigation: Diversifies business risk across multiple markets.
