Some of you may know how much I love delving into data and insights SOOO here’s something we haven’t shared with our clients yet. Last week had a pleasure to present at the Insights day alongside lovely Camilla King. We analysed data from the most recent student review collection highlighting some key trends that we’ve noticed over the last few years. Whilst we couldn't cover the wealth of data we have readily available, today I looked at overall university ratings over the last 7 years looking at top and bottom 3 regions and included some highlights below: -Northern Ireland had the highest increase in the ratings since 2018 – significant increase showcasing a continuous student satisfaction in this region -Greater London and Easter England also showing tremendous improvements that happened since 2018 -Wales and Scotland reveal slowest growth - particularly in the areas of career prospects Whilst rankings are changing annually and vary from institution to institution (reach out to your account manager to get a bespoke performance comparison and analysis) it allows us to understand how changes that institutions have been making in the last 7 years are impacting their student experience which, we hope, will drive further progress and developments. #wuscas

Further and higher education election analysis out now! To achieve inclusive economic growth, the UK needs a well-educated and skilled workforce. Sandra McNally Gugliemo Ventura and Gill Wyness argue for: * an “apprenticeship guarantee” for young people and change in how the apprenticeship levy works to facilitate this. * More graduates, particularly for the strategic sectors in which the UK has a comparative advantage. * More people educated to sub-degree level. The say achieving economic growth and prosperity involves public investment in education and skills - and this requires a complete change of trajectory. Happy New Year all! I thought I’d take this opportunity, in the new year, to reflect on what has happened in my life in the last 12 months. The last year has been quite a banner year for me, with a few main events for celebration. In the last year, I graduated with a 2:1 from Newcastle University with a BA in Politics. This degree, and opportunity to study a subject I love, is something I really treasure and value. As they say, education is the one thing nobody can take away from you, and getting this degree, and all the experiences it has presented me, has helped to shape me into the person I am now. Especially writing my dissertation, based on the impact of the Northern Powerhouse and Levelling Up initiatives on northern Local Government. As a proud northerner, and huge local government nerd, this dissertation, and all the research that went into it, wasn’t all easy, but was 100% worth it. Also, to conclude my graduation with being student orator, and delivering a speech about being #StateSchoolProud, the unique challenges which come with being a student during COVID-19, and coming from a working class background to a Russell Group university, I’m so glad I had this opportunity, and the positive response on the day, is something I treasure. Also, in the last year, I accepted a place on the National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP) for Local Government, and started in my role in Community Engagement at London Borough of Sutton. The experiences I have had on this scheme so far have been diverse, and exciting. From Chair based exercises to engage with elderly residents, to sending out voting forms to councillors, I am really enjoying my role, and the NGDP. As anyone who was friends with me at university knows, the NGDP was exactly what I wanted after university, and it is turning out exactly as I wanted. I have also had the opportunity to speak on a panel at Northumbria University about careers in the public sector, and my experiences on the NGDP, and I look forward to continuing this promotion of careers in local government in 2024. I hope this coming year can be a year of progress, self discovery and getting used to London prices! #graduate #localgovernment #communityengagement #politics

Congratulations to the young people celebrating their grades this week following 2-3 yrs of hard work. Yet again coverage of results day ignored the increasing demand among students for alternative routes to university such as degree apprenticeships. A skilled workforce, recruitment and talent retention are consistently cited by employers as among the top issues facing business. But a simple look at government’s apprenticeship website reveals just 69 degree apprenticeship vacancies - that’s 69 in the whole of England. It’s simply not acceptable and illustrated the urgent need for business to work more intensively with training providers to radically increase the range of opportunities across every region and nation of the UK.
