He explained the Srinagar model of governance, communication, and use of informal means of human resource mobilization during Srinagar floods. His key recommendations included: · Governance Model Replication: Effective governance requires centralized oversight, with heads of states ensuring proper monitoring of operations. There is need for incorporating this governance approach in other state and local bodies, as well as at the national (apex) level. · Inclusive Capacity Building: Capacity building should not only focus on formal processes but also include the informal mobilization of infrastructure and manpower. Involvement of local community groups in critical decision-making to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of operations, particularly during recovery phases after disasters. #ICIMOD #NIUA

The Jal Jeevan Mission (#JJM) was announced five years ago, on August 15. Since then, #JJM has brought clean water to even the most challenging terrains, especially those with sub-zero temperatures. Reaching these extreme locations was a major challenge for the mission. The pipelines in these sub-zero areas required frequent maintenance as the water tended to freeze and was prone to bursting. Providing water at high altitudes was almost an impossible task, especially in places with minimal access to electricity. Before the launch of #JJM, remote areas often experienced water scarcity due to the lack of a reliable power source. Another challenge was monitoring water quality and service delivery. People were generally unaware of the contaminants in their water or whether their drinking water was safe. But now, the use of cutting-edge innovation and technological instruments has enabled the Jal Jeevan Mission to expand its reach to the remotest areas. Millions now have access to safe drinking water through technological advancements like solar pumps and monitoring devices. Nestled in the frosty Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh has become one of the states with 100% tap water supply, thanks to these measures. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have achieved 81.5% and 93.5% coverage, respectively, through innovations such as HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) pipes laid beneath frost lines with insulators. #JJM is the manifestation of our country's vision of leaving no household behind. This milestone is not just about numbers; it’s about the dignity, health, and opportunities that have been brought to countless communities across the nation. #JJM has set a benchmark for other countries in the Global South, demonstrating a path to achieving their #SDG goals.
