Accessibility for learners with disabilities matters a lot, and while technology is not a magic bullet for overcoming their challenges, it offers countless opportunities. I am glad that the advocacy brief on learners with disabilities and technology is finally out! The brief summarizes some of the key findings from the #2023GEMReport on disability, outlining concrete actions that decision-makers can take to ensure that technologies follow universal design principles and improve access to learning for learners with different types of disability. The brief builds on the discussions that started during an event organized with Inclusion International in October 2023 on how to use technology for inclusive education. It is endorsed by organisations who work very hard every day to imrpove access to inclusive and equitable education for learners with disabilities: Light for the World CBM Christian Blind Mission Humanity & Inclusion and Asociación Azul. We invite you to download the paper and share it with people who may be interested in this cause: https://lnkd.in/erwTGJme Nafisa Baboo Julia McGeown Sergio Ramírez-Mena Mónica Cortés Avilés Sue Swenson Diane Richler Dorodi Sharma Federica Settimi

Today marks the "National Day for Students with Learning Disabilities." Reflecting on my journey as both a student and educator, I recall how only high achievers seemed to garner attention in classes. Though I was fortunate not to face significant challenges in my education, I can't ignore the importance of inclusive learning for all, irrespective of disabilities or backgrounds. As an accessibility advocate, I urge educators and corporate managers to embrace inclusivity in their environments. A simple step is to ensure that all documents follow accessibility standards. For instance, use a non-serif font with a minimum size of 12 for better readability. Additionally, provide alternative text for every image or diagram shared. Remember, inclusivity fosters a safe environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. Keep that in mind! 😊 #InclusiveEducation #InclusiveEnvironment #SafeEnvironment #AccessibilityAwareness #NationalDayforStudentswithLearningDisabilities

📢 "1 in every 5 disabled students ♿ in Australia lack access to essential assistive technology. Imagine navigating the educational landscape without the tools that could level the playing field. Every day without proper support is a missed opportunity for these bright minds. Now, ask yourself: Is this an equitable system?" 🔔 Promoting inclusive education is extremely necessary for creating equitable learning environments. However, the truth is that most mainstream schools are still far from easily implementing the required changes for students with disabilities. Only 24% of the students with disabilities in 2023 had received the adjustments they needed. ⚙ 📝 🎯 It is a stark reminder of the wide gap that still exists in attaining United Nations SDG 4 for Quality Education and, in particular, SDG 4.5, which aims to create inclusive and effective learning environments for all. This journey to inclusivity is far from over. Much more must be done to bridge the gap, ensuring that every student gets the right support to reach their potential. 👨🎓 👩🏫 My name is Millie Dinh, a second-year Commerce student majoring in Finance and Business Analytics at UNSW. Under the constructive guidance of Poon Leung and Alireza Ghaffarian, I developed an intriguing data project that investigates the core reasons for discrimination that disproportionately affect students with disabilities in Australia. Also, I am grateful for the support and meaningful feedback I received from my peers throughout this term Joselyn Victoria Dachi, Ngoc Linh (Annie) Tran and Annielyne Nguyen🔎 🔓 Participating in "COMM2501: Data Visualisation and Communication" was an unforgettable experience for me. Throughout these 10 weeks, I learned how to create data visualisations with the help of the Tableau Training Programme. I realized simplicity is the key to efficiently delivering and communicating complicated information. I also learned the significance of constructive feedback, which provided great insights and guided me through my data story project. 🗃 📑 In general, I rated myself an 8.5/10; this indicates the use of data effectively in bringing out key points while also creating a well-ordered and coherent flow through smooth transitions. The content was directed at the right target audience, striking the balance between theory and practice and considering other perspectives regarding diverse opinions on it. However, there is room for improvement in enhancing visualizations and further tailoring the content to focus on audiences' needs. 🎥 🎞 https://lnkd.in/dG6745R8 #unswdataviscomm #unsw #datastorytelling #SDG4 #inclusiveeducation
