Big changes are coming with the OAS CAHPS mandate, and if you don’t already have a transition plan, you’re already behind! ICYMI the OAS CAHPS survey is set to become a mandatory quality measure for ASCs in 2025. We are thrilled to present the EmpowerPEx Project, funded by the #EPUAP Starting Grant, dedicated to transforming pressure ulcer #prevention through patient and caregiver involvement. This groundbreaking initiative, led by Dr. Hannah Wilson of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), aims to bring patients and caregivers to the forefront of research decision-making, ensuring their voices are heard and valued. 🔎 How it is done and why does this matter? EmpowerPEx establishes a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) advisory panel to identify key research priorities in pressure ulcer prevention by partnering with individuals with lived experience. Pressure ulcer prevention isn’t just a medical challenge—it’s a personal one. By prioritizing the voices of those most impacted, this project aims to align research with real-world needs, enhance #healthcare delivery, and foster a collaborative approach to #patient care. We are proud to support this innovative approach that advocates patient expertise and redefines how we approach pressure ulcer prevention research. Let's stride towards a more patient-centered #healthcare future! 🚀 #EmpowerPEx #PressureUlcers #StopThePressure #PressureUlcerPrevention

It has been over 10 years since the release of the Marmot review and we are still seeing large areas of health deprivation. The more deprived the area, the shorter the life expectancy. The North of England falling in the bottom 10%. To combat the health gap, more funding has been plugged into primary care, with recent contract changes to General practice equating to an increase of 2.23% however with the cost of living crisis, population growth and real-time inflation is this enough to support new and existing patients? Irrespective of the answer, measures to diversify access points to patient care are critical and I will always champion this. Community pharmacy has always and will always be a mainstay in communities. Empowering patients with their care, decreasing health inequalities and reducing the health gap. Pharmacy First is an incredible service which provides access to patients for care in a timely manner. I have seen its impact first hand across areas with variations of deprivation. Patients who would not have necessarily been able to get access to treatment are now being treated (after a consultation), improving their quality of life. It’s important to remember Patients aren’t numbers, they are people with lives and families. We are healthcare professionals who serve our communities, it is not our communities which serve us. I will get off my soap box now but first… a reminder: Pharmacy First - Case based discussion/ Q&A webinar 13/05/24. Katy Tennyson and I visited another 1 of our 11 IP Pathfinder sites recently to have a catch up and discuss all things community pharmacy. They have recently had a dispensing robot installed so we discussed the benefits of this and future plans to expand services to meet the needs of our patients within a community setting. Things that seem to come up time and time again at these visits…. 1. Digital platforms - the struggle and frustration of logging into different systems just to be able to meet the needs of one patient. 2. Engagement with GP practice colleagues - would be good to understand why our GP practice colleagues are reluctant to engage with community pharmacy who are able and willing to support with redistribution of workload and pressures to ensure they are seeing the right patients at the right time. 3. Services - such as Pharmacy First that require a referral from another healthcare setting to enable a patient to be seen in community pharmacy isn’t really Pharmacy First. 4. Funding - we can talk about this one another day. It was great to see André A. and his colleagues at Hengate Pharmacy. #communitypharmacy #IPPathfinder #PharmacyFirst #systemworking #collaboration #improvedpatientcare #patientcareinthecommunity #letsworktogether #humberandnorthyorkshire #righthealthcareprofessional #rightservice #righttime #pharmacytechnician #pharmacyprofessionals NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) Taffazzal Haque Andrei Dudas-Alexe Laura Angus Keith Kendall Wasim Baqir David Webb Anne Joshua Ghulam Haydar Max Jones
