How much does it cost to have a team of scientists collect and analyze data and write reports on your behalf? Millions! Only the big guys — billion dollar companies, some governments of developed countries, and some large NGOs— can afford it. They get the ‘science’ that benefits them, while all the smaller businesses, teams, communities, NGOs, countries, municipalities, etc. are stuck at the mercy of outsiders and the decisions they make. For example, I met three NGOs and one government (in Nova Scotia!) this week that collect data, but they don’t have the in-house capacity to analyze the data to protect the communities they serve. They *hope* that one day some scientists will do the analysis for them. At eOceans, we believe that every community, organization, team, business, etc. should have equal access to a million dollar team of scientists, and that they should be able to unite within and across interests to scale their power and protect their interests. We are grateful to McGill University for this nomination and The Earthshot Prize for having this inspiring initiative! #earthshot #oceans #blueeconomy
We are excited to share that eOceans has been nominated for The Earthshot Prize! We are grateful to McGill University, an official nominator of The Earthshot Prize, who is committed to supporting impactful solutions addressing environmental issues. Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey for bringing people together to understand and make smart decisions — for the ocean, and for us. The Earthshot Prize (Press release in comment below). #ocean #earthshot #blueeconomy

Title: The Warming Arctic: Boom or Bust for Sustainable Environmental and Economic Development Studio Guest: Sara Wheeler, Author: The Magnetic North: Notes from the Arctic Circle, Renown British Biographer, and World Explorer, From London, United Kingdom (By Skype) ======================================================== This program features the extensive research and personal travels about the Arctic Zone by Sara Wheeler an esteemed British biographer, world traveler, and author. Sara's latest book The Magnetic North: Notes from the Arctic Circle covers two years of research and major travels across six nations of the Arctic Council while living on the very edge of nature's most life-threatening challenges. Sara will share her impressions about the Arctic, the earth's most rapidly changing climatic zone. The program will provide details about insights gained from indigenous tribal members, scientists, researchers, and off-spring of original settlers from the United States, Canada, Greenland, and Russia. As published in April, 2010 by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. USA the melting of the northern polar ice has dramatically altered this once static geographic and oceanic region. It is responsible for new-found profitability and geostrategic relevance for all members of the Arctic Council and the world. Access to crude oil, natural gas, minerals, marine resources, and shortened transportation routes between Europe and Asia are becoming accessible and viable sources of profit due to rapid climate change. The report further states that the effects of climate change have launched the Arctic Circle to the forefront of geopolitical calculations, potentially transforming the region into a commercial hub fraught both with environmental concerns and complex challenges that have direct implications for Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, the United States, and the newly autonomous country of Greenland. These signers of The Ottawa (Canada) Declaration in 1996 formally established the Arctic Council. This is an intergovernmental forum to promote cooperation, collaboration, and communications between those countries with physical claims on the Arctic along with representations by indigenous communities on mutual issues including sustainable development and environmental protection in the Arctic zone. Mapping the Ocean Data market landscape exposes me to amazing projects that are part of this immense data ecosystem. Here is one worth sharing :) #innovation #productmanagement #DataEcosystem #OceanData #impact
Absolutely incredible! Seabed 2030 has announced that over 25% of the ocean floor has now been mapped. 👏🗺️ Seabed 2030 is delivering a high-resolution, publicly available map of the ocean floor to enhance our understanding of the planet. A complete map is essential for a whole host of reasons, including promoting the sustainable management of the ocean. 🌊🙌 "A super effort by all Seabed 2030 partners who are helping to progress this important initiative and advance the collective knowledge of our oceans. Here at Seabird we're proud to be supporting this global collaborative project and look forward to helping Seabed 2030 achieve their goal." - Nathan Steele (né Baker) Steele, CTO https://lnkd.in/djd6YG89 #sustainability #marinedecarbonisation #Seabed2030 #SeabirdTechnologies #electric

«Restoring the Amazon»-panel at the #IAC2024 in Milan: A targeted approach, with local enforcing agencies in focus, is essential to tackle deforestation. The views from the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB/MCTI) gave valuable insight into how this is implemented on local level. Planet and ICEYE are satellite companies providing essential imagery of the tropical rainforest. Norway is providing funding through NICFI - Norway's International Climate and Forest Initiative program, jointly with the Bezos Earth Fund. Financial support of each country is based on them reaching agreed targets for reduction of #deforestation. The model works, and Norway is pledging to continue the rainforest program until 2035.
