On Tuesday, November 12th, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released a National Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) Research Strategy. In line with US mCDR research goals established in President Biden’s Ocean Climate Action Plan, the Strategy establishes a path to advance ocean climate action while also acknowledging the many uncertainties and knowledge gaps surrounding mCDR research. The Strategy outlines key objectives for public and private mCDR research vital to increasing community engagement, ensuring research transparency, and determining whether various approaches are safe, ethical, and effective at scale. Read the Research Strategy, encourage others to learn more about the potential risks and benefits of mCDR research, and call on our lawmakers to ensure any field trials are properly vetted with appropriate safeguards to protect our marine life and communities. #OceanClimateAction Continues!
