"The Future is Biotech" - says EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries during reception in Brussels entitled "Europe's Biotechnology & Biomanufacturing Future" Is it true? 🤔 ABSOLUTELY, due to its versatile applications in #healthcare, #agriculture, #wastemanagement , #foodsafety or #greenenergy production. 🧬 🇪🇺As Kerstin Jorna, Director General at European Commission in DG Grow, highlighted: ✅ Europe has problem with scaling up innovative projects ✅ Single Market Strategy should be used to boost #biotech growth ✅ European budget should be used to de-risk crucial projects in the field ✅ cooperation of public-private cooperation to leverage the competitivness of European economy Since #biotech is one of four pillars of EU economy (according to #STEP) it's crucial now to find and implement in upcoming #BiotechAct ❗️EXACT ❗️tools and solutions that will put above approach to life in order to use the amazing potential of #biotechnology companies from EU. ➡️ With BioForum upcoming presidency in EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries - we have a lot to do in this topic. That's why I'm very grateful to discuss this issue with Wojciech Nowak, MA, EMBA (IMD), Petra Kinzlova, Paulius Saudargas, Jeroen Hofenk, Jessica Martinsson. It was wonderful to meet in person Aga Wegrzyn, José Peres and Francisco Castro Alves. 🙏Thank you EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries Team for putting this great event together! #cooperation #biotechnology #future #policy #economy #Europe

👏 Great news! There is strong support from EU member states to a broad scope for the proposed EU Biotech Act. Today, the Competitiveness Council (COMPET) held a council meeting with the ministers responsible for internal market and industry. Their agenda was multifaceted, with the future of European competitiveness and the conclusions of the Draghi report on the agenda, and including an exchange of views on better regulation in the EU. In particular though, the agenda of any other business was of interest today. Not only did the Finnish delegation inform on the next steps for a European bioeconomy, the Danish delegation introduced “Reaping the full benefits of the biotech revolution.” These proposals received backing from Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Estonia, Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland. The countries supported a wider scope for the upcoming Biotech Act, one that also embraces sectors such as marine biotechnology, agrifood and general industrial processes, alongside the health sector. The European Commission welcomed the proposals and underlined the bio-based industry’s importance for Europe’s competitiveness and sustainability, and the need to streamline market access and ensure a level playing field. Currently, Europe, and specifically biotechnological sectors, suffer from a multitude of regulatory barriers – these affect many sectors, and must also be tackled across many sectors. Otherwise, the risk of European companies that were born here choosing to grow elsewhere in rival markets becomes very real. We support this position. We cannot limit the Biotech Act to be focused on health only. While this is also important, a broader Act is necessary. Let’s push for a bold Biotech Act. Let’s push for biosolutions 🌱 Are you curious to learn about the many different products and applications take a look at the Coalition’s European case catalogue: https://lnkd.in/dH6GtTET #biosolutions #competitiveness #sustainability Sofie Carsten Nielsen Marit Hvithamar Rystrøm

New publication of the World Economic Forum on #Bioeconomy We had a great opportunity to discuss current issues and reflect on the future of the bioeconomy during the last years at the BioTech Forum in Serbia ( https://lnkd.in/dRqgVAir ). Some of the conclusions and recommendations we discussed found their place in the first WEF report on "Accelerating the tech-driven made bioeconomy" by Igor Balaz, Nenad Paunovic, EMBA, Branislava Gemović, and myself. I would like to thank Jelena Bojović and C4IR Srbija who organized the event and invited us to collaborate with industry leaders. Also, a big thank you and support to Brynne Stanton and her team for their hard work on this important topic. It is a great opportunity that #Serbia took to support the Bioeconomy initiative of the WEF and allowed us to gain insights and network with the disruptors. More about the initiative can be found on the link https://lnkd.in/dhsZKc9Z #bioeconomy #wef #davos
