[News] RESULT Asia-Pacific framework launches to restore and sustain 100 million hectares of degraded landscapes RESULT Asia-Pacific, a regional restoration programme framework was established to immediately support 20 countries across Asia and the Pacific in their efforts to restore and sustainably manage 100 million hectares of degraded forests, agricultural land, urban areas and other landscapes across the region. This will in turn support countries in fulfilling their #restoration commitments under the three Rio Conventions on climate change, combating desertification and #biodiversity. The framework, supported by 38 partners in total, is currently led by the FAO , UN Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ITTO | International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and IUCN. The launch event took place in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together participants from governments, investors, civil society, Indigenous peoples organisations and other stakeholders. Global Goodwill Ambassadors Foundation (GGAF) The United Nations World Environment Day campaign 2024 focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future". We are #GenerationRestoration.” Source: United Nations https://lnkd.in/g3h4Zg8W "All over the world, ecosystems are threatened. From forests and drylands to farmlands and lakes, natural spaces on which humanity’s existence depends are reaching a tipping point. According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, up to 40 per cent of the planet’s land is degraded, directly affecting half of the world’s population. The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 per cent since 2000 – without urgent action, droughts may affect over three-quarters of the world's population by 2050. Land restoration is a key pillar of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, which is critical to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. This is why World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land. 2024 will mark the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. The sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will be held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, from 2 to 13 December 2024." #GGAF #WorldEnvironmentDay #unitednations Ira Bowman 👑 Ameena Ali, PhD™ 👑 Razi Hashmi Syed Richard DiPilla Jasmina Siderovski Rania Zervalaki Patrona Bojana Bogojevic Amb. willie workman oga Ivo Arrey Mbongaya

The implementation of the UNFCCC has highlighted the critical role of tropical forests, particularly in the Congo Basin, as vital carbon sinks and biodiversity habitats. However, financing remains a challenge, with the region receiving only 4% of global funding for forest conservation compared to the other regions. The workshop that took place on the 12 of September 2024 was aimed at socializing and improving political engagement of the COMIFAC-WWF Initiative to increase international finance flows to forests of the Congo Basin. In a collaborative and engaging approach, the stakeholders seek to develop innovative financing approaches that recognize and support sustainable forest management while addressing socio-economic development needs. This initiative was launched by Minister Jules Doret NDONGO at CoP27 and has since gained momentum, culminating in a collaborative memorandum signed on December 19, 2023. Our upcoming national workshops will focus on enhancing political commitment and exploring financing options to ensure that the Congo Basin continues to thrive as a green lung for our planet. Together, we can create a sustainable future! 🌱 #ClimateAction #CongoBasin #CBHIFFI #SustainableDevelopment #ForestConservation #COMIFAC #WWFCAM

🌳 💚 Today we recognise and celebrate #WorldEnvironmentDay2024. This year the focus is on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. 40-50% of raw materials extracted in the global economy are used in the manufacturing of building products and components. But only 0.3% of land's planetary surface is covered by buildings. The #builtenvironment can support the regeneration of natural systems by implementing circular economy solutions at scale and in alignment with calls to action from industry. Green Building Council of Mauritius (GBCM) is already working with businesses and local governments to meet our 2030 climate goals. We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land. Around the world, Indigenous Peoples are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change due to their reliance on natural resources, historical marginalization and dispossession, and infringements on their rights to their lands and traditions. With support from the UNDP-Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA), under the global Adaptation Innovation Marketplace, three Indigenous Maasai communities in Tanzania’s Arusha region are working with Savannas Forever to reforest 15 acres of land and restoring grassland biodiversity by replanting native species. Funded by the European Union and Adaptation Fund, Savannas Forever is among 44 organizations worldwide that have received small grants from the UNDP-AFCIA to accelerate locally-led solutions that build resilience in vulnerable communities.
