In collaboration with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and eight Water and Sanitation Community Forums (WSCFs), and supported by the Water Research Commission (WRC), IWMI’s project on ‘Institutionalizing inclusive community-led planning of water supply in Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Water Services Development Plan (WSDP)’ examined the institutional issues that seem to ignore ordinary community members in South Africa's under-resourced settings. Based on this experience and evidence, the project recommends: 🏛️ Institutionalizing WSCFs in the IDP structure 🔄 Revitalizing the IDP 💧 Promoting active community participation in the water sector. 🔴WATER🔴Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina officially handed over the newly completed Klipplaat Water Treatment Works in the Eastern Cape over the weekend, marking a significant milestone in improving access to clean and safe drinking water for residents. Are Public Private Partnerships the solution to water services delivery and water infrastructure development in South Africa? The preliminary research i have conducted shows this is indeed the direction that the country should take in order to arrest the water sector challenges. Not too late for #WorldToiletDay 🚽 USAID supported the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) - Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Health (Philippines), to develop a compendium of efforts of government agencies, local government units, water service providers, the private sector, civil society, and development partners in addressing the critical need for accessible and sustainable #sanitation services in the country. The first edition features USAID Safe Water’s experience of its innovative financing scheme for household sanitation called Output-Based Aid and Blended Finance in Cauayan, Sagay City, and Alabel.
