In collaboration with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and eight Water and Sanitation Community Forums (WSCFs), and supported by the Water Research Commission (WRC), IWMI’s project on ‘Institutionalizing inclusive community-led planning of water supply in Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Water Services Development Plan (WSDP)’ examined the institutional issues that seem to ignore ordinary community members in South Africa's under-resourced settings. Our program partner KEWASNET last week convened a 2-day technical working group with key stakeholders in the water sector to discuss critical issues around water governance and accountability in the counties. Led by KEWASNET CEO, Malesi Shivaji, the group emphasized the ongoing struggle Kenyans face in accessing clean water services, despite substantial budget allocations over the years. The stakeholders called on county governments to prioritize the effective implementation of water services and urged the inclusion of stakeholders in the planning and execution of water projects from the very start to ensure ownership and sustainability. https://lnkd.in/dPwUrb8s Partnership for African Social & Governance Research (PASGR) Centre For Social Planning And Administrative Development (CESPAD) Kenya Water for Health Organization Government Of Makueni County #AfricanCivilSocietyNetworkonWaterandSanitation Big Five Africa Ltd(BfA) Simavi WWF-Kenya #KajiadoYouthWaterParliament #KakamegaYouthWaterParliament #KwaleYouthWaterParliament WASREB KENYA African Population and Health Research Center #VihigaCountyGovernment Aqua Clara Kenya COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF MARSABIT County Government of Turkana #KajiadoCountyGovernment Water Resources Authority (WRA) #InstituteOfEnvironmentAndWaterManagement Sanivation #AccountabilityForWater #WaterGovernance #WASHForAll
