In this cross-sectional study, the prevalence of impaired myocardial flow reserve (assessed by rubidium cardiac PET/CT) was increased among current (N=32) and former anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) users (N=31) compared with controls (N=27); suggesting that AAS use may be associated with possible persistent coronary microvascular dysfunction years after AAS cessation.
New paper from our group, authored by Yeliz Bulut, published in #jamanetworkopen. using Rubidium PET CT scans, we demonstrate that both current and former illicit androgen users exhibit coronary microcirculation, highlighting serious and lasting cardiovascular risks. 7moBut let's not forget that it is also associated with decreased stroke severity at onset and, of course, lower stroke risk overall 😅.
