LinkedIn state, Did you know? With a population of 54 million, 15 million Kenyans lack access to safe water and 37 million lack access to a safe toilet. Growing water demand and water scarcity have turned into a notable challenge in Kenya. Climate change, population growth, urbanization, water pollution, and poor management of water resources have aggravated the issue of the water crisis, which affects economic activities, food security, education, and health. These challenges are especially evident in rural areas and urban slums where people are often unable to connect to piped water infrastructure. That's why CRIMOND SPACE CONSULTANCY closes in. In a recent EM - Earth Matters Matters interview, Dr. Angela R. Pashayan a distinguished expert in international relations, climate and human settlements in East Africa, and Nathalia A. A., a human rights advocate, humanitarian and community engagement specialist, discussed the ongoing flood crisis in Kenya. They emphasised the urgent need for action and assistance alongside Dr Pashayan. Dr Pashayan's organisation, YOD International, is actively engaged on the ground, providing vital aid to those affected. However, to sustain these efforts, support from the community is urgently required. The gravity of the crisis cannot be overstated: hundreds of thousands are now displaced, with a significant portion residing in informal settlements such as Mukuru, one of Kenya's largest slums. It's staggering to note that 70% of Kenya's population grapples with similar precarious living conditions. Humanitarian issues like this affect us all, and we must not ignore them. We encourage everyone to spread this professional insight to raise awareness and garner support for Kenya's displaced communities. Together, we can make a difference in this critical moment by pooling our resources and expertise to provide aid and relief to those facing this immense challenge. #KenyaFloods #HumanitarianAid #SupportKenya #KenyaDevelopment #Kenya #ClimateChange #EastAfrica🌍 https://lnkd.in/edfyGVGs

Understanding the paradox of Water and Peace in the Somali Region of Ethiopia Did you know? In the Somali Region of Ethiopia, approximately 43% of the population lacks access to clean drinking water, fueling tensions and conflicts. (Source: UNICEF) According to recent data, 17 conflicts have erupted due to water scarcity in the region. (Source: International Crisis Group) The impact? It's devastating. Many families rely on agriculture, but erratic rainfall patterns and dwindling water sources lead to crop failures, pushing communities into displacement and migration. (Source: World Bank) But there's hope! The government, Local NGOs and international organizations are stepping up, implementing water management projects and fostering dialogue to promote peace. We need sustainable solutions! By investing in water infrastructure and promoting international cooperation, we can build resilience and pave the way for lasting peace in water-stressed regions. Let's join hands and work towards a future where everyone has access to clean water and where water becomes a source of unity rather than conflict. Together, we can make a difference! #WaterForPeace #SomaliRegion #Ethiopia #SustainableFuture

Water Crisis in Al-Hasakeh - Assessment of Roles, Challenges, and Opportunities The interventions addressing the water crisis in Al-Hasakah city rely on inconsistent and sporadic emergency solutions, with a lack of integrated, sustainable medium or long-term solutions. According to a joint report prepared by the organization "Syrians for Truth and Justice" in collaboration with civil and humanitarian organizations working in the field of human rights in the Syrian context[1], the main reasons for the exacerbation of the water scarcity problem to the point of complete deficit in northeastern Syria are the unlawful practices of using water as a weapon by conflicting parties that violate international laws and norms, both local and international, intervening in the Syrian conflict, thus depriving the region's residents, whether local community members or displaced persons, of their most basic rights to access water. Adaptive management is easier said than done in a context of conflict, but our frontline teams of Max and Plan Ethiopia pulled it off by an extensive exercise of repurposing project activities. Also the Dutch Embassy in Ethiopa displayed commendable flexibility and support throughout this whole process. Donor’s support is crucial in providing the enabling environment for adaptive programming. It is all about striking the right balance between taking risks and delivering the promised results. If a donor demands minimal risks, that precludes experimentation and innovation and so undermines optimal results. Also trust is an essential ingredient of adaptive management, but we have slipped into a low trust high compliance culture that is hard to shift. We need to rely more on trusting programme staff and partners to do ‘adaptive delivery’ - feeling their way and changing direction on a regular basis in responsive to the changing environment and signals they are receiving. But then the question is how we allow donors to still monitor the effectiveness of the adjustments suggested, without being forced to report on monthly basis…Together with the amazing team of EKN Ethiopia we are working on the right answers. We already learned a lot and are still learning! Tesfahun Alemayehu Belew Hans Angenent Kokeb Berhanu Gizachew Mulu Fitsum Teshome Wondimu Erik Slingerland
𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮, 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗮 Max Foundation Ethiopia works together with the local NGO ORDA Ethiopia on the Healthy Village Programme in the Amhara region. Since July 2023, we have been facing challenges due to the unstable security situation in the area. Despite these difficulties, we’ve stayed dedicated to our mission and continued our work within the constraints that are there. This has meant we needed to be very flexible and find new ways to keep being effective. We are incredibly proud of the adaptative mindset of our team and the strategic repurposing process they went through. We are also really thankful to ORDA Ethiopia for being creative with us and helping ensure that, despite the challenges. Together we keep moving forward to give every child a healthy start! 💚 Photo: Our last weeks meeting with the ORDA Ethiopia higher officials to discuss progress so far and our upcoming repurposing interventions. #MaxFoundationEthiopia #HealthyVillageProgramme #ORDAEthiopia #HealthForAll #Teamwork #AmharaRegion Kokeb Berhanu Dawit Shiferaw Gizachew Mulu Nathnael Weldegebriel Gibramu Yazie Max Foundation

Nigeria’s ongoing violent conflicts have inflicted severe wounds on the nation’s economy, impacting livelihoods, infrastructure, and overall development. Disruptions caused by violence – displacement, property destruction, and travel anxieties – have crippled various economic activities. As farmers and herders clash, communities are forced out of their land and sources of livelihood, exacerbating food insecurity and overall economic activity. Whether you are a policy maker, researcher, or advocate, this report is vital for understanding the country's evolving security environment.
