For so long, Kenyans have endured the consequences of oppressive regimes that have plagued our beloved country. Corruption has seeped into every corner of our institutions, punitive tax measures have burdened our citizens, and a glaring lack of accountability has stunted our growth and prosperity. Now, as if the damage they've done isn't enough, they aim to tighten their grip further with the proposed Finance Bill 2024—a bill that threatens to oppress us and future generations with even harsher economic burdens. We, the youth of Kenya, have had enough. We stand united, ready to reclaim our country and its future. We refuse to let these unjust measures define our lives or the lives of those who follow us. There is no turning back now. It is time for change, for integrity, and a brighter future for all Kenyans. Let’s unite and make our voices heard because there is no turning back. Together, we can and will bring about the change Kenya desperately needs. Join us in this critical movement. Show up for the protests and let us work together to build a Kenya we can all be proud of. #RejectFinanceBill2024 #RejectFinanceBill2024 #RejectFinanceBill2024

No... It is more than the Finance Bill going back to the drawing board( Remember by now the Kenya budget would have been read), we're not in a hurry as long as things are done right. It is more than the Cabinet Secretaries going home. We are concerned with their replacements.( History shouldn't repeat itself, we need qualified people to occupy those offices). We are doing away with tribalism(just one tribe occupying 90% of the Government offices with a country of 43 tribes). We are fighting nepotism, corruption and other social injustices. It is more than having peace, we need to know why protesters were shot. You don't fight someone carrying placards, posters , whistles, handkerchiefs, bottles of water with a live bullet, no. We mourn the fallen heroes. We need to agree that the spirit of the constitution of Kenya has to be followed to the latter. It is for the people of the Republic of Kenya 🇰🇪. We want more. We love Kenya so much to let it rot in the hands of a few in power. We have a role to protect our future. We have a generation to come and find Kenya in a good place if not better. We have a baton to pass to the next generation.

My deep concerns goes to the ongoing protests and unrest in Kenya. The controversial finance bill, which proposes significant tax hikes, has ignited widespread protests across the country. These events highlight the critical intersection of economic policy and the rule of law in fostering sustainable development. 📈 Economic Implications: The proposed tax increases aim to address Kenya's substantial public debt, which stands at 68% of GDP. Nevertheless, the public outcry against these measures underscores the delicate balance needed in economic policymaking. Effective economic policies must consider the well-being of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable, to ensure inclusive growth. ⚖️ Rule of Law: The current situation underscores the importance of transparent and accountable governance. The rule of law is essential in mediating conflicts, ensuring justice, and promoting social stability. The government's response to these protests and its engagement with civil society will be crucial in maintaining the trust and confidence of the Kenyan people. The path to sustainable development in Kenya hinges on the integration of robust economic policies with strong governance principles. However, what the government of Kenya currently lacks is accountability and transparency. Enhancing public participation in the legislative process is crucial, allowing citizens to contribute their insights and understand the economic implications of proposed policies. #Kenya #RuleOfLaw #PublicParticipation #Transparency #EconomicDevelopment #SustainableDevelopment

In Nairobi, Kenya, tensions have escalated as citizens and activists voice vehement opposition to the newly proposed Finance Bill of 2024. The bill, which has sparked nationwide protests under the hashtag #Rejectfinancebill2024, has drawn criticism for its perceived impacts on the cost of living and economic inequality. Protesters argue that the bill unfairly burdens the average citizen by increasing taxes on essential goods and services, further straining household budgets already stretched thin by inflation and economic uncertainty. The controversial provisions of the bill include hikes in fuel and utility taxes, which opponents argue will disproportionately affect low-income families and exacerbate poverty levels. Demonstrators have taken to the streets, demanding that the government prioritize economic relief measures over austerity policies. Despite assurances from government officials that these measures are necessary for fiscal stability and public service provision, disagreement continues to grow, drawing attention to deep-seated public discontent with current economic policies in Kenya. #Kenya #bill #protest #news #globalpoliticsaffairs #economy #finance

The Kenyan government has proposed a prosposterous finance bill which has led to Kenyans reeling in anger. We have been over-taxed, yet our taxes don't serve us. Instead we witness government officials living a life of opulence, government wastage , corruption scandals which in any sane country would be prosecuted. Youth in Kenya cannot secure jobs despite attaining degrees in university. And even the few who start businesses, close them down due to the hostile business environment due to overtaxation. We have taken a stand and demand government accountability. As per our preamble 1) All sovereign power belongs to the people of Kenya and shall be exercised only in accordance with this Constitution. (2) The people may exercise their sovereign power either directly or through their democratically elected representatives. We take back our power and reject finance bill #Rejectfinancebill2024 #RevolutionKe

Kenya is at a critical juncture. The recent events surrounding the Finance Bill have exposed deep-seated issues that demand our urgent attention. A bill intended to support revenue collection and budget measures has ignited a wave of demonstrations. What began as peaceful protests were marred by violence, looting, and destruction, infiltrated by political crooks intent on causing chaos. This escalation led President Ruto to take drastic measures: he refused to assent to the Finance Bill, dissolved the cabinet, and saw the resignation of the Inspector General of Police. However, despite these significant actions, some beneficiaries of this turmoil persist in urging further demonstrations. Rumors swirl that certain international organizations, retired politicians, and senior legal leaders are funding civil society activists to maintain a state of unrest. The Kenyan media has exacerbated the situation by spreading misinformation, while bloggers are being paid to whip up emotions and drive young Kenyans to the streets. We must call out these sponsors of chaos. Look at the instability plaguing our African neighbors: Sudan, South Sudan, and Somalia. The consequences of such unrest are dire. These countries have seen their economies collapse, their social fabric torn apart, and their future prospects dimmed. Kenya cannot afford to follow this path. It is time for dialogue, not destruction. We need to give President Ruto the time and space to implement the much-needed reforms. Let us not be swayed by those who seek to destabilize our nation for their gain. Kenya is our home, and we must protect it from falling into anarchy. We must stand together and prioritize the future of our nation over the interests of a few. It's time to focus on rebuilding, reconciliation, and reform. #KenyaniYetu

🔴BREAKING NEWS: Kenya is facing protests! How bad? 100 arrested and 2 dead!! 🤔What happened? ▪ Thousands of protesters, mostly youngsters, have been protesting for a week in multiple cities as hashtags like #OccupyParliament and #RejectFinanceBill2024 are trending there! ▪ Kenyan Police fired tear gas and water cannons as 200 people were injured and 100 were arrested by the police. ▪ Spent cartridges were allegedly found on-site, indicating the use of live rounds which (reportedly) caused 2 deaths!! 🧐Why? ▪ Due to the controversial 2024 Finance Bill. ▪ The Kenyan government has planned to raise $2.7 billion in additional taxes, leading to public outrage. ▪ Some of the reforms proposed include a mandatory 3% deduction from employees’ monthly wages towards a national housing program, a 16% VAT on fuel, increasing the top personal income rate to 35%, a 16% tax on bread, and many more!! ▪ People have complained that the tax reforms would worsen an existing cost-of-living crisis! 😲Interestingly: ▪ Kenya has an external debt of almost $80 billion! ▪ Over 16% of the country’s population is in poverty! ▪ The plan was to use the funds to reduce external borrowing and reduce the budget deficit from 5.7% to 3.3% of GDP! ▪ The government had to reluctantly take down the bread, automobile, and mobile/financial services levy, a move which the country’s Treasury claims will result in a $1.5 billion shortfall!! 🥸Analysis: ▪ Years of mismanagement and reckless borrowing have severely weakened the Kenyan economy. ▪ While raising taxes is important, raising them on necessities would only serve to exacerbate the situation! ❓How will the government resolve this crisis?? Why Kenya Kwanza Lies Have Destroyed Our Country and Why They Must Be Removed From Power: This constant lying by William Ruto is not simply aimed at making Kenyans believe his fabrications but at ensuring that we lose faith in everything — the government, institutions, and even truth itself. His lies are not just words; they are a strategy to create confusion, distrust, and chaos. When a people can no longer distinguish between truth and deception, they cannot differentiate right from wrong either. Ruto’s deceptive promises — be it economic prosperity, job creation, or an end to corruption — have not only failed to materialize but have made us question reality. From manipulating statistics to blaming external forces for his failures, his regime has turned Kenya into a nation of doubters, where truth feels elusive. And when citizens, robbed of the power to think critically and hold leadership accountable, stop questioning lies, they become enslaved by them. Without realizing it, we have been made subjects to his grand deception, forced to watch our economy crumble, our reputation internationally tarnished, and our livelihoods stolen. With such a leader, anything is possible — but none of it is for the people’s good. If we do not rise up to demand accountability, integrity, and leadership rooted in truth, Kenya will remain a playground for lies. We must, therefore, reclaim our power and demand the removal of William Ruto, whose lies have become a weapon against our very existence. With every unchallenged deception, we lose more of our country. It is time to act.

According to the Global Financial Integrity, Kenya loses millions of dollars annually through money laundering, tax evasions, embezzlements, lootings and other crimes in the name of illicit financial flows out of the country, denying Kenyans rights to social protections and other safety net measures. Kenyans For Tax Justice Movement shall continue partnering, impacting knowledge and empowering grassroots communities with all advocacy arsenals including strategic litigations to fight back tax evasions, illicit financial flows and corruption in Kenya. https://lnkd.in/d-9d-zFV #StopTheBleeding #TaxJusticeChampions

THREE things MUST happen to get Kenya out of this existential crisis. FIRST, the President must REJECT the bill as passed by the National Assembly. SECOND, Kenya Kwanza and Azimio MPs must come together and write a new Finance Bill taking into account the public’s key concerns. THIRDLY, the President needs to reconstitute his team of economic advisors. They are tone deaf and have brought Kenya to the brink of catastrophe and international shame. Lastly, I mourn the loss of life yesterday and wish all those who were injured a quick recovery. Let all be united for the love of country to get Kenya out of this crisis.

**Say No to the Finance Bill 2024, Kenya** At Virtuous, we stand with millions of Kenyans in opposition to the proposed Finance Bill. Here are key reasons why we need to occupy parliament and make our voices heard: 1. Economic Impact: The Finance Bill is tone-deaf and exacerbates our already struggling economy. 2. Leadership Accountability: Our leaders must prioritize the well-being of citizens and respond to our calls for action. 3. Tax Burden: The Finance Bill 2024 introduces new taxes that require thorough public debate. 4. Increased Costs: Our already costly periods are expected to become even more expensive. As one article highlights, "taxing exempt status products will affect prices of items such as #sanitarypads." "We won't stop protesting. It's the engine that moves society forward." #OccupyParliament #FinanceBillKE #OurRights #RisingCostOfLiving #PeoplePower #RejectTheFinanceBill2024
