Despite many in the country feeling less optimistic about society and their own personal economic situation ahead of the Autumn budget, our latest research covered by Fundraising UK Ltd shows that it's by no means all doom and gloom for charities.   Nearly two-thirds want to see greater government funding for the third sector – with some clear preferences for particular sectors – and many people now donate more than they did a few years ago.   This could present an opportunity for charities to grow support and make a powerful case for a stronger role at the heart of policy making and service delivery. To achieve this, they need to truly understand who their target audiences are and how to inspire and motivate them to engage. https://lnkd.in/e93P4-Ng

Small charities are the lifeblood of local communities; they are trusted and respected yet they struggle to get the funds they so rightly deserve to deliver their much needed services. Last week, our MD, Pete Evans had a great conversation with Mike Quate and Rachel Smith about One for the City. One for the City lets businesses commit either 1% of their revenue or profit to charities in Leeds.  The organisation is inspired by 1% for the planet but focuses on Leeds.  It also helps address the the growing gap between the business economy and the people suffering hardship in Leeds because of their socio-economic circumstances. Business isn't just about making money and whilst our MD, Pete Evans is from the other side of the Pennines, it is great to be giving back to the city where the business is now based. The manifesto of One for the City is:- 1) Champion business to become a force for good which benefits wider society and the environment 2) Create a community of businesses committed to growing a more inclusive economy 3) Increase collective giving to charitable and social causes in the city 4) Provide a platform for which businesses can centrally contribute their financial donations 5) Illustrate the impact made businesses supporting the 1% model If you are interested in knowing more then reach out directly to Mike Quate

We’ve won £20,000 again. Great news and praise God - but I’m going to talk about the importance of young people on judging panels for funding. So this funder (I can’t disclose yet) has a youth advisory panel who assessed all the applications and we we won this funding BECAUSE of them and because of them ONLY. As a grassroots, youth-led organisation with hardly any money, we obviously struggle to compete with thousands of charities that are much bigger than us and have the capacity to outsource bid writing and get fundraising consultants to support them. So inevitably, we get declined from funding opportunities. The reason I’m making this post is because funders need to have more young people on the board and involved in their decision-making. The young people had probably heard of us, hence why they shortlisted us but the funders probably didn’t! Funders, please support more grassroots, especially YOUTH-LED charities. Bridging Barriers
