In 2022, the Edo State Government contracted DAI to establish the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City by developing procedures, programs, strategy, and a sustainability roadmap that meets the present and future needs of the state public service. In this first phase, the team established the Academy’s necessary building blocks, including a strategic roadmap and service offerings; governance and organizational structure; standard operating procedures; credible faculty; competent staff; necessary infrastructure; linkages to key training institutions; fit-for-purpose programs; and a visibility and branding structure. The Academy was officially launched in August 2023 and trained more than 5,000 public servants. In August 2023, the Edo State Governor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, officially commissioned the Academy. At the high-level event, DAI was recognized as the “best partner” to work with. We are now moving into the second phase, focusing on consolidating operations and providing ongoing support for organizational sustainability. The partnership between the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) and the National Innovation Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Nigeria is a significant milestone. However, it also prompts us to consider ways to enhance its impact, particularly for Nigeria’s youth, who hold the key to shaping the future of our creative and digital economies. Here are some ideas I’d love to see implemented to further amplify the partnership’s reach and impact: 👉 Youth-Centric Hubs: Establish regional digital innovation hubs specifically designed to cater to the needs of young creatives. These hubs should provide access to essential tools, mentorship, and funding opportunities to support their creative endeavors. 👉 Focused Talent Development: Integrate certain entertainment programs with nationwide hackathons and creative competitions. These events should provide a platform for young creatives to showcase their digital skills and cultural expressions, fostering a culture of innovation and creativity. 👉 Global Market Access: Create, scale and promote online socio-cultural platforms to connect Nigerian creatives and artisans with international audiences. By doing so, we can empower entrepreneurship and promote Nigerian culture globally. 👉 Grassroots Engagement: Expand the reach of the Innovation and Creativity Exchange (ICE) to underserved communities, ensuring that even rural youth have access to the digital and creative revolution. The potential impact of these initiatives is enormous. By equipping young Nigerians with cutting-edge skills, we can empower them to become creators, innovators, and leaders. This, in turn, can drive economic growth and position Nigeria as a global hub for cultural technology. Moreover, digital platforms provide a means to document, celebrate, and share our rich and profound heritage with the world, contributing to cultural preservation. This partnership holds immense potential, and with these additional efforts, it can serve as a blueprint for truly transformative growth. Innovation has a profound impact only when it empowers individuals and communities.

Tracy Okoro a partner at DigitA brought invaluable insights to the conversation on policy innovation. Organized by the NITDA Nigeria , in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Nigeria and funded by the European Union, this event marked a pivotal step in advancing policy implementation and digital transformation in Nigeria. She highlighted a common challenge in policy development—the gap between intention and execution. “While many policies are crafted with good intentions, the real hurdle lies in implementation,”. She pointed to the PPIF as a solution, one that ensures policies are crafted with diverse voices and, more importantly, are practical and actionable for real-world impact. #PPIF #inclusivegovernance #sustainablepolicies #policyinnovation #DigitalTransformation

Our Chief Executive Vicki Stott FRSA and Director of International and Professional Services Eduardo Ramos have this week spoken at 2024's Going Global conference in Nigeria. Organised by the British Council, this annual forum for leaders in international education took place in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on 26-28 November, and hosted more than 200 participants – including delegates from 16 countries across the region. Speakers included senior leaders in tertiary education, government officials, sector bodies, industry representatives and recent graduates of UK programmes. Vicki joined representatives of West African universities and regional sector bodies to take part in a panel discussion chaired by the Secretary General of The Association of Commonwealth Universities. The discussion explored the collaborative approach to achieving excellence adopted by the processes of quality assurance conducted through The World Bank's Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE) project. The ACE initiative is designed to build the capacity of higher education institutions, with the aim of addressing regional development challenges in West and Central Africa.
