No Canary's R&D Battery-to-Black Mass Line Recently, we installed this R&D Line for Battery Recyling at an undisclosed research and development facility in Europe. We are sure, that its whereabouts will be published soon, but this will be reserved for our valued customer. We have been asked to design a line with a similar functionality like the one at BLB - Battery LabFactory Braunschweig and iPAT - Institute for Particle Technology (Institut für Partikeltechnik) at Technische Universität Braunschweig, but smaller. Obviously in order to fit better into a lab... but still able to crush whole battery modules - in a vacuum of <5 mbar absolute pressure. You can see the result below. With this line, the researchers can accelerate their development in battery recycling. Fitting into a lab, this line includes vacuum crusher for battery cells and modules (deactivated by No Canary's Zero-Volt-Discharging technology) and our intensive dryer in order to evaporate and condense the volatile organics). Crushing and drying are performed in a vacuum of 5 mbar absolute pressure. This enhances safety, accelarates the drying process, and obviously reduces leakages to a minimum - which is obviously important in a lab as well as in production. Thanks to Benjamin von Loeper, Jonathan Ahrens, Alexander Specht, and the whole No Canary team for making this happen!

🌟 My reflections about Plastic 🌟 Plastic shaped our society and democratized the ability to enjoy conveniences and the comfort of modern life. Plastic gave us the opportunity to invent the modern aesthetic for everyday life, a universal state of democratic luxury. But this came with a price… demonization. As Susan Frenkel said, plastic is a material with which we’ve had a toxic relationship. It is the material we love to hate but can’t seem to live without. If you want to keep reading the complete article with my thoughts on plastics and why we needed Plastics Engineering - Powered by SPE to go digital, check out our newsletter!

We're on a mission to make #seaweed the world's future protein crop. What should we do with the other stuff (the polysaccharides)? Read about seaweed bioplastics in this recent WIRED article featuring our friends at Sway, Julia Marsh and Matthew Mayes
"The members of Julia Marsh's lab group were like a team from the Marvel Universe: There was Amanda Guan, who’d recently gotten her master’s degree, in a white lab coat, gray turtleneck, and plastic safety goggles that somehow managed to look hip; Joakim Engström, a boisterous Swedish polymer scientist with a bushy mustache and a wool hat; and Matthew Catarino, the Big Plastics escapee, reserved beneath his baseball cap." This one's a special feature for us. The WIRED team has seen Sway through the development of our technology portfolio, from Firstwave™ to TPSea™ to TPSea Flex™. It's been a true delight having Clive Thompson as an interviewer-turned-friend through calls, lab visits, and many emails over the last couple years — thank you for bringing our seaweed solutions to the surface through WIRED's lens. How can we ensure consistent good quality, when we have no control over material properties? Circular economy is one of the most discussed topics in the plastics industry. Maintaining control over process and product quality despite the integration of plastics recyclates is one of the biggest challenges. Kistler expert Thomas Michael Koch discusses solutions and different approaches in his talk “Circular Economy – Controllability of plastics recyclates with cavity pressure” at the Biopolymer Processing & Moulding congress (Halle an der Saale) on June 11, 2024! Interested? Make sure to join Thomas live or tune into the live stream of the entire event 👉 https://lnkd.in/gFmGh7qN #KistlerGroup #CircularEconomy #CavityPressure
