Charles Dorsey owns and runs Montgomery Brewing Company, an hour's drive southwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota in the farmland town of Montgomery. His brewery operates within the walls of the historical building that housed the original Montgomery Brewing Company. Known as Chuck, he stewards the brewing legacy of the town and the distinction of being among the 1% of craft breweries in the nation that are black-owned.  More than a business, the brewery is a balance between tradition and innovation. In a town that has become a steadfast supporter, Chuck wears the mantle of representing black-owned breweries with pride recognizing the significance of his role in an industry where diversity remains a rarity. Within the narrative of Montgomery Brewing, Chuck revels in the joy that beer, a timeless connector, brings people together. Through every challenge and triumph, he finds a source of fun and fulfillment in uniting individuals over shared experiences and finely crafted brews. As year-end wrap-ups highlight brewery closures, I’ve seen a lot of confusion about what’s driving these struggles. Many are quick to blame Georgia’s restrictive laws, but the reality is far more complex. The challenges facing breweries today are multifaceted: rising costs, changing consumer behavior, increased competition, and even internal issues within the craft beer industry itself. Exciting news! Alcohol-free beer company, Big Drop Brewing Co, has awarded a licence to Keystone Brewing Group in a move that sees all its UK production move to our brewery in Masham, Yorkshire. The new licence gives Keystone exclusivity to brew and sell Big Drop’s products throughout the UK and to European export markets, filling some of the capacity created at Black Sheep following an investment of over £1m in its brewhouse creating a centre for brewing excellence. Scoop: Craft beer pioneer Lagunitas Brewing Company is eyeing a massive warehouse space in the Port of Oakland for its next brewery after closing its 300,000 sq.ft. plant in Chicago in August. What this means for production at its Petaluma headquarters, should a deal come through, remains to be seen. Lagunitas said earlier this year it would relocate Chicago production and some of those jobs to Petaluma. It's been a rough several years for hoppy high-ABV beer makers — see declines in the Lagunitas namesake IPA and the Lil Sumpin' Sumpin' wheat ale — but it still holds enviable marketshare in the non-alcoholic hop water space, for now, in the face of multiplying competition. I’ve not previously considered a Pinter machine, but it has solved a problem that many brands are looking to battle: How do I stop shipping water? 💧 All households have access to water and water is heavy to transport. 🚛 By removing water we can improve efficiencies in the supply chain. ♻️ An efficient supply chain reduces emissions and saves a business money. Other examples are smol dissolving tables for their cleaning spray. By removing the water from more products we can take those small steps to save the planet 🌎 Where can we find more opportunities?
