Top 5 Threats to Maritime Logistics Anyone is welcome to answer. Addressing key challenges in maritime logistics is essential for regional stability, particularly in the South China Sea. Current Situation: China's maritime militia, comprising purpose-built maritime militia fishing vessels (MMFV) and Spratly Backbone Fishing Vessels (SBFVs), plays a significant role in asserting control over disputed territories in the South China Sea. These vessels, ranging from 45 to 65 meters long, are often indistinguishable from ordinary fishing boats, making differentiation a significant hurdle. To effectively identify and track these vessels, utilizing advanced Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities is crucial. Imagine deploying operational amphibious vessels equipped with extended range and maneuverability, capable of conducting missions in challenging sea conditions. These vessels could feature efficient offshore resupply systems to ensure sustained operations. Furthermore, we should consider vessels with rapid deployment capabilities, able to carry essential resources and personnel, with lift capacities comparable to an MV-22 or CH-53. Integrating technology like ISR for underwater threat detection would further enhance safety and operational efficiency. To counter China's maritime militia effectively, incorporating advanced force protection systems, such as CROW-mounted weapons, is essential for self-defense. Strengthening logistics, upgrading vessel designs, and enhancing ISR capabilities are critical steps for ensuring maritime security in the region. #MaritimeSecurity #SouthChinaSea #DefenseStrategy #MOAV

Strengthening Security: U.S. and Gulf Cooperation Council Address Regional Threats "The region is experiencing one of its most challenging periods in recent years," stated a senior defense official on Monday. The official highlighted the pervasive threats from Iran and its proxies, citing 175 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan, and over 90 Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea since October. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which includes the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait, met to discuss these threats. The U.S., represented by officials from the Joint Staff, U.S. Central Command, Naval Forces Central Command, Air Forces Central Command, the Missile Defense Agency, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, participated in working groups on maritime security and air and missile defense. In the maritime security group, discussions focused on Houthi attacks using anti-ship ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, UAVs, and unmanned surface and underwater vehicles, which jeopardize navigation and mariners' lives. The U.S.-led "Prosperity Guardian" mission, with over 24 participating nations, aims to counter these threats. The integrated air and missile defense working group addressed the significant missile launches by Iran and its proxies on April 13. The successful defense against these attacks underscored the importance of regional cooperation and integrated defense systems. The discussions aim to improve U.S. and GCC interoperability, enhance early warning systems, and ensure regional peace and security. "We're stronger when we act together," the official concluded. #Defense #Security #GCC #MiddleEast #MaritimeSecurity #MissileDefense #InternationalRelations #RegionalStability

NORDIC WARDEN Enhances Protection Of Critical Undersea Infrastructure During the first week of #NORDICWARDEN, the ten participant nations of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) have intensified their cooperation and focus on the protection of Critical Undersea Infrastructure (CUI) in Northern Europe. This includes dispatching air and sea assets to monitor so-called Vessels of Interest, whose behaviour, past and present, warrants investigation. NORDIC WARDEN, which started on 3 June and lasts about four weeks, follows similar activity at the end of 2023, called JEF Response Option (JRO) 3.2. Whether on the sea or in the air, seamless communication between JEF vessels and operators on shore is vital. CUI vulnerability can allow an adversary to use hybrid warfare techniques to destabilise targets by circumventing the methods of standard warfare. One aspect of JEF and NATO surveillance of CUI is to deter any attempt of sabotage. The ten JEF nations have made more than 30 ships and multiple air assets available for NORDIC WARDEN. A typical follow-up to a report of unusual activity will trigger secure communications between JEF HQ and the JEF Participant Nations involved, often resulting in closer surveillance, including the dispatch of aircraft or ship as required. The activity is conducted as Associated Support to NATO, and alongside multiple Alliance activities taking place around the same time in the Baltic region, in particular the 53rd iteration of the Baltic Operations Exercise (BALTOPS). #BALTOPS24, which started on Friday 7th June, involves nineteen NATO Allies, more than 50 ships, over 85 aircraft, and approximately 9,000 personnel. They will participate in what will be the largest assembled coalition of amphibious forces in the exercises history. The JEF is headquartered at Northwood Headquarters, located in the UK, where the newly established NATO Maritime Centre for the Security of CUI also sits. The centre is dedicated to the security of thousands of miles of undersea energy pipelines and cables, which are vulnerable to attacks aimed at disrupting energy supply, global communications and economic activity. In recent years, NATO has massively boosted efforts to enhance the protection of CUI. In early 2023, NATO announced the creation of a CUI Coordination Cell at NATO Headquarters, facilitating engagement with military and civilian stakeholders. #JEFtogether

The Israeli Navy, the Ministry of Defense’s Directorate of Defense Research & Development, and the Israel Aerospace Industries completed an interception test using a BARAK LR (LRAD) Long Range Robust Interceptor. The LRAD interceptor is part of the BARAK Integrated Air Defense System that is an advanced Air & Missile Defense System that provides a single integrated solution for multiple simultaneous aerial threats from different sources and different ranges. The Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar 6 class corvette INS Atzmaut, which were declared operational during the ‘Swords of Iron’ War, are equipped with wide aerial defense layers combining kinetic and non-kinetic systems. The ‘Barak Magen’ aerial defense system and the LRAD long-range interceptor completed the Israeli Navy the ability to manage a wide variety of aerial threats. The test was carried out by the INS “Atzmaut” (Independence) missile ship. During the test, a precise rocket was launched at a target that simulated a strategic asset at sea, the ‘Barak Magen’ system detected, tracked, and classified the target as a threat and completed a successful interception process until the target was destroyed. This test is a proof of the system’s operational capability and readiness during combat. The ‘Barak Magen’ system is an advanced aerial defense system produced by the Israel Aerospace Industries, which incorporates a multi-mission radar that enables the detection of a variety of threats, their classification by the weapon system, and their interception by a long-range interceptor. The system has the ability to deal with a wide range of threats including Ballistic, Cruise Missiles, UAVs, and more. These days, as the IDF is dealing with a variety of aerial threats, from several arenas, both near and far, the operationalization of the ‘LRAD’ long-range interceptor will strengthen the Israeli Navy’s capability to achieve naval superiority. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gME-waZd
