#ArcherWright crews attending this morning's Safety Stand Down in Henderson County, NC. These crews, who work on our joint venture NCDOT I-26 Expansion Project, are learning about the hazards of pinchpoints and staying out of the "line of fire." A simple definition of “line of fire” is being in harm’s way. Line of fire injuries occur when the path of a moving object or the release of hazardous substances intersects with an individual’s body. • To avoid Line of Fire incidents: • Always be aware of any body part that can be exposed to a line of fire/pinchpoint(eyes, hands, fingers, feet). • Never pull tools or equipment toward your body or face. • A Task Hazard Analysis should always be performed to identify all hazards prior to beginning any work. • Barricade the area around a hoisting zone. • If someone is working around equipment, make sure the operator knows where they are at all times. • Never attempt to operate equipment that has been tagged or locked.
