#ArcherWright crews attending this morning's Safety Stand Down in Henderson County, NC. These crews, who work on our joint venture NCDOT I-26 Expansion Project, are learning about the hazards of pinchpoints and staying out of the "line of fire." A simple definition of “line of fire” is being in harm’s way. Line of fire injuries occur when the path of a moving object or the release of hazardous substances intersects with an individual’s body. • To avoid Line of Fire incidents: • Always be aware of any body part that can be exposed to a line of fire/pinchpoint(eyes, hands, fingers, feet). • Never pull tools or equipment toward your body or face. • A Task Hazard Analysis should always be performed to identify all hazards prior to beginning any work. • Barricade the area around a hoisting zone. • If someone is working around equipment, make sure the operator knows where they are at all times. • Never attempt to operate equipment that has been tagged or locked. 🟡A tragic incident in downtown Fort Lauderdale🟢 One construction worker lost their life, and three others were injured when a heavy section of a crane fell onto the Southeast Third Avenue bridge during a busy pre-rush hour. Despite the potential for greater catastrophe given the traffic volume, only a few vehicles were hit, with two sustaining severe damage. The bridge now remains closed pending safety certification, and boat traffic on the New River is also halted. The accident, which occurred while workers were raising the crane for a high-rise apartment project, is under investigation. Previous concerns about safety at the site were raised by residents, highlighting the need for stringent safety measures and oversight in construction projects.
