Chief Executive Officer at Surfers For Climate. Building the capacity of surfing communities around Australia to embrace climate action and draw a line in the sand on new oil and gas in our ocean.

There’s nothing better in life than seeing a whacky idea that raised eyebrows at first transform into a ‘thing’ that’s happening, with epic partners taking the plunge to support it. The Trade Up Cup is a blended surf competition (all craft welcome) for tradies who surf, judged using AI video and a few humans (thanks to Tyson Rose at Surf Park Productions), collecting scores from their best two waves, as well as scores from tradie skills challenges and trivia, delivered in a concrete wave pool (URBNSURF Sydney) followed by a kick arse after party at The Warrenview Hotel with a live podcast from Jed Smith and Vaughan Blakey at Ain’t That Swell showcasing how tradies can build the future we want (also featuring Rewiring Australia Dean Ipaviz Surfers For Climate Colormaker Industries and more) wrapping it all up with live music and good times. It’s never been done like this before, and it has certainly never been done with the specific intention to engage a huge group of people who are absolutely critical to the goal of decarbonisation of our lives - tradies. Tradies are the brains and brawn who are going to build the future we all want in the climate action game. The Trade Up Cup (and ongoing education program) is our way at Surfers for Climate to engage, inspire and encourage tradies to take their place on the wave of action, helping us not only reduce the 30% of carbon emissions that come from construction each year, but also building out the renewable energy and energy efficiency renovations that are homes desperately need if we’re going to reduce the cost of living while taking meaningful climate action. Getting an idea off the ground like the Trade Up Cup doesn’t happen without a lot of good people leaning in, so huge thanks to the entire Surfers for Climate team and Chris Little , James Miles and the team at URBNSURF , Liz and the gang at Young Henrys, and all the great sponsors like YETI Australia & New Zealand VOLCOM SafeStyle Pty Ltd Colormaker Industries Buckaroo Leatherworks Pty Ltd Bonsoy Airgarden Surfing Australia and more. If you’re reading this and you work in the trades or building and construction sector and want to get involved. Then shoot me a message, or register your team at: https://lnkd.in/gv32S4Ke
