Roadmaps for the Advancement of Air Traffic Management To enhance the effectiveness of air traffic management (ATM) systems, it is essential to establish a well-defined vision for the future. Recent initiatives led by the ICAO NACC office underscore the significance of long-term planning, focusing on key areas such as Free Route Airspace, Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) implementation, and Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM). 🌍✈️ A key step forward for European aviation: the 2025 edition of the European ATM Master Plan was formally approved today by the SESAR 3 Governing Board. This collaborative roadmap, led by SESAR Joint Undertaking and backed by EUROCONTROL, the European Commission and aviation experts across the sector, sets the stage for a digital and green European sky. 🌱✨ The updated plan focuses on making Europe’s airspace the most efficient and environmentally-friendly sky to fly in the world by 2045. As EUROCONTROL’s Director General, I’m proud of the role we’ve played in shaping this vision. Together, we’re accelerating the transformation of air traffic management to meet tomorrow’s needs. Collaboration with our Member States is crucial when it comes to collecting #routecharges from airspace users ✈️, one of our key services to European #aviation - and innovating in this area via the "CRCO 2.0" roadmap is a central part of our corporate programme #RaisingTheBar #EUROCONTROL2030. We just welcomed the representatives of the national Route Charges Offices of our Member States at our HQ for the 19th Route Charges Office (RCO) Working Group, to give them an overview on the latest improvements to our services and tools, and to exchange on best practices & future collaboration. 👉 The group is a central pillar of our work supporting Member States & the aviation sector by collecting #routecharges which cover the cost of #ATC air traffic control for every flight ✈️ in the European air traffic network. The charges are also the main source of liquidity for #ANSPs air navigation service providers across Europe. The meeting saw excellent exchanges inter alia on: 📄 Simplified reporting on diverted flights ✔ Completeness of the monthly transmissions of flight messages 🔧 Centralised Flight Analyser (CFA) tool 💻 #ETNA & #CEFA system improvements (digital portals for States, ANSPs and airspace users) ✈ iOAT flight plan progress. We also managed to arrange a visit to our new EUROCONTROL #NMOC Network Manager Operations Centre, the core of our air traffic management network operations. #EUROCONTROL #CRCO #collaboration

A Collaborative Approach to Air Traffic Management As air traffic grows and becomes more complex, collaboration among international agencies is more crucial than ever. The work being done in the NAM/CAR regions with the ICAO NACC office and Free Route Airspace is a prime example of how partnerships can unlock efficiencies and enhance safety. I’m proud to be part of a team that is leading these efforts. Currently, my work focuses on regional collaboration, implementing Free Route Airspace in the NAM/CAR and SAM regions, PBN (Performance-Based Navigation) implementation, and improving Search and Rescue (SAR) capabilities. The tragic loss of #MH370 spurred an international collaboration to improve the ability for search and rescue services to quickly locate an aircraft in distress anywhere in the world. AMSA is responsible for aviation and maritime search and rescue for around 10% of the earth’s surface and we are proud to be part of these efforts. The Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS) was developed to strengthen global capabilities for tracking, alerting, and locating aircraft in distress, particularly in marine environments. This system enables faster, more effective search and rescue responses. Last week, AMSA’s Principal Advisor Aviation Policy, Scott Constable, delivered a virtual keynote at the International Seminar on Implementing GADSS in Indonesia. Scott shared insights into Australia’s implementation of GADSS, the innovative Autonomous Distress Tracking capability, and tips for using the system during search and rescue operations.
