I was talking to someone recently who is about to return to work after a break. She is questioning if she really wants to return to this particular job, as she feels it is a career she has fallen into rather than deliberately chosen. She is approaching mid-life and wants to be doing something she is passionate about. She's not alone! Many women feel stuck and unsatisfied in their careers. It's a sign you are ready for growth and new challenges! Change, especially careers, can be daunting but also deeply rewarding! As Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." So here are some things I find help navigate this transition with confidence and purpose: 📋 SELF ASSESSMENT - the most important step...start by understanding yourself! What are your core values, interests, strengths, skills? What aspect of your current role gives you energy, makes you buzz! For me in my previous career as a Commercial Leader, it was helping people grow, develop and smash their performance! What type of environment do you thrive in? Have you done a personality test, career or strengths finder assessment? These can help you paint a picture of your preferred career path or even new business! 🤝 RESEARCH & NETWORK - once you have a sense of direction, research industries/roles that align with your interests and skills. Reach out to people on LinkedIn/at networking events or friends/friends of friends! These can offer invaluable insights, advice and even job leads. 🤹 BUILD NEW SKILLS - identify your skills gap. Look at courses, workshops (Linkedin learning is also a good place to start) or certifications that can bridge gaps. Learning is a continuous journey and nowadays there are plenty of options 'on and offline'. Remember you are never too old! 🙋♀️GET A COACH - now of course I am going to add this, as I am a Coach! I will also add this is my biggest regret, I waited too long to get the help and support I needed. When I did get coached the 'light bulb' moments kept coming and the path forward became clear! Change is never easy, but when we take the first step and get some help, that's when our path unfolds in exciting and unexpected ways! Have you successfully navigated a career change, or are you considering one? What have you found most valuable or where are you stuck? Share your experience, or questions in the comments below...and reach out if you want some help! #Navigatingchange #coachingtips #careerchange #newbeginnings #lovewhatyoudo #midlifemastery #maximisingpotential

Tired of feeling stuck in your career? It’s time to let go of what's holding you down. The Elephant and the Rope: There was once an elephant tied to a small rope at a circus. Despite its immense strength, the elephant never attempted to break free. It had been conditioned to believe that the tiny rope was strong enough to hold it back because as a baby, it wasn’t able to break free. Even as a fully grown adult, the elephant accepted the rope’s control over its movements, never realizing its true power. This story mirrors the experience of many professionals today. Self-doubt and past failures often act like that tiny rope, keeping them stuck in their careers, afraid to push for more. They underestimate their abilities, settle for less, and stay confined to roles that don’t fully tap into their potential. ❓ How often have you felt held back by fear or past mistakes? ❓ What beliefs or habits are keeping you tied to a place that no longer serves your growth? Here are a few powerful reminders inspired by the elephant’s story: 💡 Your past doesn’t define your future. Just because something didn’t work before doesn’t mean it won’t work now. Let go of limiting beliefs that keep you tied down. 💪 You’re stronger than you think. Like the elephant, many of us forget our own strength. Trust in your capabilities, and don’t be afraid to challenge what’s holding you back. 🚀 Take bold steps. Sometimes, the only thing standing between you and your next career milestone is the courage to take action. Whether it’s asking for a promotion, switching jobs, or learning a new skill—don’t let fear keep you grounded. 🔗 Break the mental chains. It’s easy to fall into a routine and accept things as they are. But true growth happens when we dare to break free from mental chains and embrace change. 🎯 Surround yourself with growth-minded individuals. Seek mentors, coaches, and a supportive network that will remind you of your potential, encourage you to grow, and hold you accountable to your dreams. Are you ready to break free from the mental ropes that are keeping you from your career success? 💥 Don’t settle for less—step into your power and start creating the career and life you deserve! 🚀 Inspired? What if I told you the hardest part of a career transition isn’t the change itself—but the journey of self-discovery it triggers? Throughout my career transitions, I’ve seen a recurring theme: the overwhelming feelings and the introspection it requires. It took time to realize that these challenges are universal, but they are surmountable with the right tools, support, and mindset. I've had many conversations through the years with others who were pivoting and learnt that these shifts force us to redefine who we are. Here’s what I’ve learned: ❓ Embrace the Uncertainty Stepping into the unknown can feel like standing on the edge of a cliff. Instead of fearing the fall, see it as an opportunity. When I paused my job search to build Amaltas, the initial uncertainty led to growth and new possibilities. Embrace uncertainty by identifying potential opportunities—it can turn fear into excitement. Remember, careers and life are full of explorations. 😱 Understand the Role of Fear Fear signals that you're stepping out of your comfort zone. It’s common during transitions but also a sign of breaking new ground. Recognizing that much of your overwhelm comes from fear can help you approach it with a clearer mindset. Your nervous system is protecting you from the unknown, but that unknown often holds opportunities for growth. ✍ Redefine Your Identity We often tie our identity to our work. When that changes, it can feel disorienting. Hence, it is natural to feel disconnected from one’s previous identity during a career change. Visualizing your future self can help bridge the gap between your past and where you’re headed. 🏗 Leverage Your Skills The skills you need are likely already within you. Identify and build on them, documenting your growth. Confidence comes from recognizing the value you already bring. 📈 Navigate Multiple Transitions Studies show that handling multiple transitions simultaneously can increase stress levels. Break down your challenges, prioritize self-care, and celebrate small wins. Progress is still progress. 🤝 Connect with Others Engaging with people who have navigated similar transitions can be invaluable. Their insights and strategies offer practical advice and support. By talking to others, I’ve gained practical advice, recalibrated my path, and found a supportive community. Sharing experiences fosters learning and encouragement. 📈 Take Incremental Steps Big changes don’t happen overnight. Focus on small, consistent actions that lead you closer to your goals. Even 1% improvement each day can result in significant progress. Which of these insights resonates with you? Have you faced any of these challenges in your career transition? Share your story—I’d love to hear how you’re navigating your journey. --- I help individuals navigate career transitions with personalized insights and practical strategies to confidently embrace change and achieve their professional goals. #careertransitions #pivot #growth

Has a belief you’ve held stopped your career promotion? Have you ever stopped to consider how your beliefs might be shaping your career trajectory? Like many of us, you may have inherited beliefs from childhood or absorbed them from influential figures in your life without even realising it. Think back to a belief you held as a child – perhaps it was the notion that you should be “seen and not heard” or that work is a “means to an end”. For years, it may have influenced your behaviour, causing you to hold back and not speak up in certain situations and to “put up and shut up”. In your career, many beliefs may hold you back from reaching your full potential. These beliefs often manifest as feelings of inadequacy, fear of failure or a reluctance to take risks. They can leave you feeling stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and limitation. Because work is meant to be serious, right? We spend so much time at work – it is imperative to enjoy what you do. Imagine living a life of power and limitlessness, where you approach challenges with confidence and joy. It’s possible to challenge and dispel limiting beliefs, freeing yourself to pursue your goals and aspirations with renewed vigour. I recall a moment during a 5-year international project when I boldly challenged the belief that work is meant to be (hard) work, when I declared to other members of the management team that we were there to have fun. Wow – that caused a reaction. My insistence on infusing joy into our work environment gradually shifted the team’s perspectives. By the project’s end, the “having fun” mantra had become ingrained in our collective ethos, leading to increased productivity and morale. So, how can you break free from limiting beliefs and propel your career forward? 1. Evaluate your beliefs. Take a moment to reflect on the beliefs that may be holding you back. Are they serving or hindering your progress? 2. Identify external influences. Consider whether you’ve adopted beliefs from parents, friends, or partners that may not align with your true aspirations. 3. Reframe your mindset. Challenge negative beliefs and reframe them in a way that empowers and supports your career goals. Don’t let limiting beliefs dictate the course of your career. You have the power to rewrite your story and pursue the success you deserve. If you’re feeling trapped in a cycle of self-limiting beliefs and stagnant career growth, I invite you to break free. Let’s work together to dissolve those beliefs that are holding you back and pave the way for your next-level promotion. Considering a career change at 50 can feel daunting. You’re not alone if you're wondering, “Is it worth it?” Whether it’s dissatisfaction with your role, feeling stuck, or just sensing that you need more, there’s never a wrong time to go after a career that truly lights you up. But before diving in, let’s be practical—and a little bit courageous. Here’s some brutally honest questions to help you navigate a career change at 50 #1. Does It Need to Be a Full Career Shift? Sometimes, fulfillment isn’t about a new career but about reframing your current one. Take a hard look at your role and ask, “Could a slight pivot or shift reignite your life and purpose?” For some, adding a passion project, a side mission or hobby can bring the satisfaction you’re craving without going all-in on a full career change. # 2. Can You Start Your New Career on the Side? If a new career feels too risky or financially overwhelming, consider starting something in parallel. Explore options to dip your toes into entrepreneurship or part-time work in a field of interest. This step eases you into the shift while maintaining stability. # 3. Repackage Your Skills and Experience for Your New Career Your experience is valuable, and a successful career shift often lies in repackaging your skills. Leadership, adaptability, resilience—these aren’t skills you have to reinvent. However, updating your résumé to highlight transferable abilities and taking a few upskilling courses or certifications will show future employers you’re ready for today’s demands. # 4. Who Can Help You to Grow Your New Career? At this stage, your professional network might not be as active as it once was. Now is a good time to dive back in, and. when you're ready, let others know about your new exciting new venture! LinkedIn, networking events, and reconnecting with colleagues are essential for career shifts. Referrals often open doors, especially when transitioning into a new industry. # 5. Be Honest About Your Energy and Stamina Starting fresh takes energy. As you consider a shift, evaluate your current stamina and overall wellness. This might mean taking steps to improve physical and mental health to stay sharp and competitive. If you’re still on the fence, remember: it’s never too late to create a life that fulfills you. Change isn’t for the faint-hearted, but hypnotherapy can provide practical support by reframing self-doubt, breaking through mental barriers, and revealing your inner motivation. If self-doubt is holding you back, hypnotherapy can work to reframe those inner beliefs, turning hesitation into motivation and focus. “You’re so brave for changing careers” This is the #1 reaction I get when people find out I made a mid-career shift from corporate marketing to starting my own coaching and gym business. I appreciate their kind words, but unfortunately, it’s not true. I was actually 💩 scared the whole time!!! You would be crazy not to be freaking out at the thought of risking the career you’ve built for so many years for something completely new and untested. So I wasn’t brave at all. Instead, I was prepared. I spent a lot of time and effort figuring out ways to lessen the risk so it didn’t feel so scary. Here’s some of the things I did that helped: 💩 Plan a sufficient transition period: I offered to my company to stay on for 6 months on a part time basis, instead of the mandatory 3 months. This gave me a longer lead time to get my business up and running while still having cash coming in. 💩 Prepare a financial safety net: You know the idea of the “rainy day fund” where you should have 3-6 months savings at all times? Do the same for your transition. And if you’re extra paranoid like me, prepare 2x or even 3x that amount! 💩 Get your dream team in place: Set yourself up for success by making sure you have the right people to support your journey. Believe me, it lessens the burden when you know you don’t have to figure it all out yourself! For me that meant, hiring a business coach, a career coach, getting partners, and of course, leaning on friends and family for much needed emotional support along the way. 💩 Fix your fitness first: You won’t last long if you’re exhausted, burnt out, and have low resilience for stress. Prioritise your health and fitness first (physical and mental!) and that will give you a solid base from which to start. 💩 Hold on to your “Big Why”: Even after doing all of these things, there will still be rough days when you wonder why you left your cushy job for this. It’s at this point that you need to hold on to your “Big Why”. It will give you the focus to live to fight another day. So if you’ve always wanted to make a career change but are 💩 scared, don’t worry, it’s normal. Focus instead on preparing to deal with the 💩 along the way! Need help with your preparations?
