The vacuum furnace at TSL is used for high-temperature joining processes in the manufacture of X-ray anodes and fused silica, and sapphire UHV viewports. We have a variety of joining processes, both metal-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal. X-ray anode bodies and heatsinks are brazed in the vacuum furnace at. Capabilities include joining various materials including stainless steel to copper and copper to silver and assembly of water-cooled configurations. CVD diamond wafers can be incorporated for customers requiring highly efficient cooling for small spot or high-power X-ray applications. We can also perform specialist vacuum furnace runs to the particular specification of the customer. The furnace, supplied by Specnow Ltd., has a hot zone four times larger than previous furnaces at TSL. The system incorporates Specnow’s Microlink control system with data management and logging. i-TECs implements temperature sensor integration to the cold/hot side of the TECs as standard manufacturing option. There are two main ways of installation are mainly used in our manufacturing practice: a) Gluing of the NTC thermistor to edge of the ceramics. b) Soldering of the NTC thermistor to the internal or outside surface of the ceramics.
