Around the world, Sauvignon Blanc grapes are produced for their white wine. Though it can also be used to make a delectable dessert wine, this adaptable grape is most commonly seen as a dry white wine. One of the most sought-after wine varieties on the planet, Sauternes, uses a lot of it. Although Sauvignon Blanc is an Old World grape variety, its global recognition has only recently increased due to the rise in popularity of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Sauvignon Blanc can be many things to many individuals, with two main expressions that span from grassy, high-acid, and mildly fruity wines to oaky, luscious, tropical fruit bombs. It can convey terroir in a variety of ways and be tailored to fit a wine maker's needs. #bunny #grapes #Sauvignon Blanc grapes. #newzealand

TOP TIPS, TRUTHS & MYTHS Red Rioja is a wine style not a grape variety. Rioja is region based on its unique place AKA terroir. So the wines are often labeled by the region / appellation (D.O. /D.O.P) rather than the grape. Then in true Latin style they sometimes break the rules and label the bottles with grape name only ?!?! Grapes of red Rioja : Tempranillo Garnacha Graciano Mazuelo Ps you can also have white Rioja !!!’ #riojawine #winegeek #winetoptips

They are backed by subtle hints of vanilla and mocha from 14 months of aging in French oak barrels. A smooth, approachable wine with firm tannins. PINOT MEUNIER In the Champagne region, farmers produce seven grape varieties, but most wineries employ only three varieties for their wines: chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier. Pinot Meunier (aka schwarzriesling in German) is a fruity red grape variety used less often than chardonnay and pinot noir. Pinot Meunier wines smell of sour cherries, mushrooms, pomegranates, and occasionally potting soil. The wines are bone dry and medium-bodied with an average of 10 to 12 per cent ABV. Pinot Meunier is also made as a still red wine and marketed as Bouzy Rouge after the town where most Pinot Meunier is grown. They should be served at 12 – 15 C in red wine glasses. Pair with grilled vegetables, sauteed mushrooms, pork roasts, pizzas, pasta with meat sauce, and semi-hard cheeses.

Grenache: a hidden gem in the wine world 🍇 Despite being the seventh most planted grape variety globally, Grenache often remains under the radar with consumers. In Europe, the grape is frequently hidden in AOP regulations, and in Australia, it’s commonly blended into GSM wines, making it less visible on labels compared to more popular varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. 🌍 Grenache’s versatility and ability to thrive in hot climates has led to its global expansion. Originating from Spain, Garnacha Tinta is a staple in Rioja, while Grenache Noir dominates southern France. With wines crafted from Grenache Noir, Blanc, and even Gris, regions such as Australia, South Africa, and California are producing standout bottles, offering everything from accessible “quaffers” to age-worthy classics. 🏅 Winemakers now have a unique opportunity to spotlight their Grenache at the Global Grenache Masters competition. Judged by a panel of Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers, the competition recognises the finest examples of this underappreciated grape. Entry submissions are open until Monday, 30 September 2024. #Grenache #GlobalGrenacheMasters #WineIndustry #WineCompetitions #Grapes #Winemaking

Its silly season and that means popping corks! Most Australian sparkling wine consists of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, with the most common style a blend of the two. Australian grape growers pick cool-climate Chardonnay fruit early to retain its high acidity levels before it’s too ripe and acidity levels decrease. Some winemakers also make single-variety (100%) sparkling Chardonnays, known as Blanc de Blancs (French for ‘white of whites’). Australian Blanc de Blancs tend to be elegant, savoury, floral and dry, with robust acid. Aged Blanc de Blancs – like all sparkling wines that have spent extended time on lees – can also develop toasty notes. Other winemakers do produce single-variety (100%) sparkling Pinot Noirs, known as Blanc de Noirs (French for ‘white of blacks’, or white wine made from red grapes). [ 1𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗥𝗨 ] 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗮 1𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲? ✨ In #Burgundy, wines are classified according to the quality of the terroir where the grapes are grown. 🍇 Premiers Crus appellations account for around 10% of Burgundy wines. These oenological gems are always linked to the name of the village where the vines are planted. ✍🏻 On the label of a bottle of Burgundy Premier Cru #wine, you'll see: the name of the appellation followed by the specific name of the village where the vines are planted. 🍷 Premiers Crus wines come from parcels carefully selected (climat) for their exceptional quality. Located on well exposed slopes and benefiting from ideal geological and climatic conditions, these #vineyards produce grapes of incomparable quality.
