Upon completing my internship, I was thrilled to join the Avisto Eastern Europe team as an Embedded Software Developer. 🌟 It's 2025 – nothing is impossible. Storytime: Growing up, we’ve all been expected to follow a “defined path” – study, score well, choose a traditional career. Stray from the lines, and you hear a lot, you face a lot. But the times have changed, and so have I. Back in 8th grade, I landed my first internship at IBM, one of the world’s leading tech firms. Initially, it was just curiosity – a chance to explore and see how the corporate world feels. Little did I know, I’d fall in love with the experience and the endless possibilities it held. Fast forward to today – I turned 17 less than a month ago, and instead of focusing only on being hired or preparing for competitive exams, I’ve been on the other side of the table: hiring for KnowSpace, managing data, scheduling meetings, and conducting interviews. This journey has been nothing short of incredible. While it wasn’t my first time taking interviews, it was the first time for a bigger purpose, and that made all the difference. Had I confined myself to just academics or stayed in the comfort zone of a limited internship role at IBM, I wouldn’t have discovered what I’m truly capable of. Here are a few learnings I’d love to share from my journey so far: ✅ Age is just a number. Start early or late – what matters is your determination. ✅ Life is limitless. Opportunities are everywhere; the key is to keep exploring. ✅ Focus on growth. Even a 1% improvement every day adds up. Here’s how: - 1% growth daily for 1 year = 37.78x your starting point - Over 2 years= 1,428.49x - Over 3 years= 54,379.33x Small, consistent progress compounds into incredible results over time! Of course, there were challenges. I didn’t achieve the marks I’d hoped for in my board exams, and I’ve had my share of overthinking and self-doubt. But those moments taught me the importance of balance and effective management – skills that keep me grounded and moving forward. How does one get promoted to team leads? How to get noticed and acknowledged for having potential? These are some great questions, and I’d like to tell a short story about it 📗 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗶𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: 1. You are responsible for your growth 🫵 2. Your manager can collaborate with you to find the direction of your growth 🗺️ 3. Once your manager knows of your direction, he can spot opportunities for your growth 🔎 4. You should not simply rely on your manager to lead you to where you want to be, it’s a collaboration 🧑🤝🧑 Recently, in Trafi, we welcomed a new addition to the managerial ranks — Daniel Dluznevskij 🎊 🎊 🎊 He knew where he wanted to go and proactively communicated his goals to his manager. As you may understand, an opening for such a position likely means that a new team has to be formed. This doesn’t happen often. In our case, it took more than a year for the opportunity to present itself, and it was twofold: 1. Our company secured a growth opportunity and, with it, the need for multiple new engineers. 2. The team I was leading was getting quite big and we were reshuffling our responsibilities. We agreed that a new team is to be formed and since we knew about Daniel’s aspirations this became that much easier 😌 We’ve set up a 3-month transition period for Daniel (I’ll leave the details for another post), which he completed with flying colors 🌈 𝗜𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟯 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼: 1. Form his team by hiring multiple new engineers 💪 2. Introduce an iOS Internship role and find a great match ❤️ 3. Lighten the load on my team by taking over some responsibilities 🪶 4. Bring his team to performing mode: lead technical discussions, establish new mobile apps, etc. 🙌 I’d love to hear what the promotion process for such roles is in your company. Please do share ♥️

🚴♂️ Reality Check: Engineering Dreams vs. Uber Adventures 🚴♂️ Today, while on my way to an internship interview, I met an Uber bike driver who shared his life story with me. 👨💼👨💼 He runs **TWO BUSINESSES** and still drives Uber, raking in a cool **₹2.2 LAKH per month**. Meanwhile, I'm here,studying engineering and doing all sorts of things other than engineering. 🙃 Imagine my shock: 👷♂️ "I'm going to build the future!" 🚴♂️ "I drive to my businesses. Your move." Career goal update: 1. Learn to code. 💻 2. Learn to ride a bike. 🚴♂️ 3. Learn to multitask like a pro. 🤹♂️ If you see me on LinkedIn next year with "CEO of XYZ, Uber Biker" in my title, you'll know the driver inspired me. 😂 #EngineeringLife #CareerGoals

Get to know Adrian Olteanu from Realworld Eastern Europe 👋 Q: When did you join the REE team? 9 years ago, in a galaxy not so far away, I had just finished my second year of university when I received a call from a friend at Realworld. He, also a student back then, dialed me up and dropped the bombshell: a paid internship at RWS during the summer break, focusing on the sophisticated language of Java, which seemed like a mystical art at the time. I embraced the internship, thus kick-starting this wild adventure.   Q: Describe your experience so far. Thanks to the company's flexibility and, most importantly, the support of its amazing people, I've had the chance to transition from a junior role to a programmer, dipped my toes into the world of project management and delivery, experienced the complexity of commercial rigour, and eventually landed in the sales department — a place filled with loads of responsibility and challenges. It's been an adventure filled with growth and learning at every turn!   Q: What is your current position and main responsibilities? Ah, my official title? Intergalactic Sales Lead — wait, I mean, just kidding! With the company's new take on holacracy, my role has become quite the multitasking extravaganza, not that it wasn't always that way. My primary responsibility is to make the cash flow, and trust me, that involves a lot of tasks: from setting potential clients meetings, delivering product presentations and demos, handling situations with our existing customers, and nurturing partnerships, all the way to crafting proposals and diving into tenders.   Q: What do you like to do in your free time? Ah, free time? Is that the mystical interval between business meetings and deadlines? Well, in those rare moments, I tend to seek adrenaline-packed activities like motorcycle rides, skiing, mountain climbing, and hiking. T he list goes on! Oh, and of course, there are the parties with friends – because networking happens everywhere, right?   Q: The best way to spend a weekend? Picture yourself in a comfortable and warm place with the sea in front, gently swaying in a hammock, with some soothing music humming in the background. As a proud Sky Creative Graduate, I recently had the honor of visiting Bolder Academy alongside fellow grads from Sky. We had the opportunity to share our career experiences, offer guidance, and interact with students at the career panel and fair. It was truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and curiosity about the creative industry. During the panel discussion, I detailed how I secured my role at Sky and the great experience that I've had so far. Emphasizing the importance of perseverance, continuous learning, and seizing opportunities, We aimed to empower the students to pursue their passions. (I hope it worked? 👀 ) Reflecting on my journey, I'm reminded of the many people who helped me along the way. From mentors who guided me to colleagues who supported me, each interaction played a crucial role in my development. Working within an incredibly welcoming and supportive team at Sky Creative has underscored for me just how crucial support and collaboration are for personal and professional development. It felt surreal to be back in a school setting—can it really be 7 years since I graduated high school? 🤢 Being there made me reflect on how much my mindset has evolved since then. Seeing the impressive way these students are seizing opportunities and planning for their futures was both inspiring and humbling. It took me back to my own school days, when I was uncertain about my path and afraid of making mistakes. To now, having a fulfilling job and living in London feels like a dream come true. Witnessing today’s students actively engage with their future possibilities reminded me of my own journey and how far I’ve come. Interactions like these are essential for nurturing future talent, and I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to be part of this event. Thank you to Liam Shallow and Salma E. for bringing me along!
