Today, I came across a heartbreaking image that underscores the profound suffering many children face due to conflict and intentional starvation. This is Abdul Qader Al-Sarhi, a 13-year-old who tragically lost his life to hunger and siege conditions. It's unconscionable that in our interconnected world, children continue to suffer and die from such preventable causes. This image is a stark reminder of the urgent need for international intervention and humanitarian aid. We must raise our voices and take action against the cruelty inflicted upon innocent lives. The intentional starvation and suffering of populations is a grave violation of human rights and must be condemned by all of humanity. As global citizens, we have a responsibility to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. Let’s support organizations working on the ground, push for policy changes, and amplify stories like Abdul's to ensure no child has to endure such a fate. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s work towards a world where every child has the opportunity to grow up safe, healthy, and hopeful for the future. #freepalestine#EndHunger #ChildWelfare #GlobalCitizenship #HumanitarianAid #SaveTheChildren

I had the priviledge of visiting and helping Sudanese refugees and orphans. Reflecting on the one year following the sudden outbreak of conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on April 15, 2023. 8.2 million people have been forced to leave their country, home, and belongings to seek protection and assistance in surrounding countries around the world. Over 14,700 people have died in the violence and about 30,000 have been injured. Famine, grief, and distress are traumatic consequences of such senseless violent acts. Innocent civilians should not suffer and die as a results of a power struggle between two selfish groups of individuals. #Social #learning #theory has often been applied towards understanding #aggression and the development of aggression. Why are some people likely to resort to aggressive violent behaviour in comparison to non-violent behaviour? The answer is complex with several factors contributing to violent behaviour; however, a prevalent theory is that violent and non-violent behaviours are learned. Social learning theory is the idea that young children, adolescents and adults learn to commit aggressive acts, violent acts, or non-violent acts through operant conditioning (being directly reinforced or punished for behaviour). One main concern is countries allowing the #violence to continue, young children and adolescents are #learning to mimic similar behaviour from a young age. The #trauma of these #Sudanese orphans watching their parents die has a significant impact on their #mental #health and emotional #wellbeing. What happens when these refugees become adults? When they become leaders of their country? Or when they migrate to other countries? The aggressive, violent, and antisocial inclinations have been deeply seeded in the minds of innnocent civilians. #Leaders and #civilians should not ignore the violent outbreak in Sudan, it is not one country's problem; It is every country's problem. Thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by the violent attacks, and thank you to the #humanitarian aid workers for their continued efforts in assisting those in need. Too many families and children have died and a country destroyed through incomprehensible violence. It is time we break our silence! Help #Sudan, they have the right to #food, #shelter and #safety.

Every child deserves a chance to live and thrive, free from the horrors of war. In times of conflict, the impact on the most vulnerable is often the most heartbreaking. As Israeli military actions continue in Gaza, we are witnessing an escalating humanitarian crisis. Children, the innocent bystanders of this conflict, are now facing the unimaginable threat of starvation and dehydration due to the blockade on essential aid. A poignant image from Rafah shows a wounded displaced Palestinian child, a stark reminder of their desperate situation. With over 800,000 Palestinians displaced and infrastructure in ruins, the United Nations and UNICEF are urgently calling for action to protect these children and provide them with the basic necessities of life. The world needs to remember that no child should suffer or die from war wounds and starvation. The need for immediate and compassionate intervention is more pressing than ever. #HumanRights #Gaza #UNICEF #HumanitarianCrisis #ChildrenInConflict #Advocacy

On this day– Palestinian Child’s Day – we must collectively confront the fact that more children have been killed in the last six months in Palestine than in four years of global conflict (https://bit.ly/4cHO0g9). Reflecting on this should lead all of us to come together in an urgent commitment to peace. In the last six months, more than 13,000 Palestinian children in Gaza have been killed, 17,000 have been orphaned, unaccompanied, or separated from their parents, and many more are suffering from life-changing injuries, starvation, constant fear of bombing, and psychological trauma. These are children who had hopes and dreams for their futures, like all children everywhere. As the CEO of an organization working towards the day when all children have the education, support, and opportunity to create a better world for themselves and all of us, it is difficult to process just how far we are from holding a shared societal commitment to this end. The rights of children, as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, are only the beginning of the commitments we should be making to provide an environment enabling children to thrive and improve our collective welfare. And yet these rights are being violated daily. Children have lost their most basic rights, including their right to life, survival, and protection during war and conflict. I echo the UN Security Council’s recent demands for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the immediate release of all hostages. In addition, it is imperative that specialized support is provided to affected children and families in Palestine, Lebanon, and Israel to relieve the traumatic and long-lasting effects of the war. Every day that goes by without ending the ongoing violence further puts children’s lives and our collective futures at risk. We simply cannot continue to tolerate the suffering in Palestine. Let us unite in demanding an end to the violence and swift action to provide humanitarian aid to those in need. #PalestinianChildDay

The Unseen Victims of War: Palestinian Children The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been ongoing for decades, with both sides suffering immense losses. However, there is a group that often goes unseen and unheard - the children. Palestinian children are growing up in a war zone, where the sound of gunfire and explosions is a constant reality. They are being denied their basic rights to education, healthcare, and a childhood free from fear. The statistics are heartbreaking: - Over 2,000 Palestinian children have been killed since 2000 - Thousands more have been injured, many with lifelong disabilities - Children make up over 50% of the Palestinian refugee population - Access to education and healthcare is severely limited due to the conflict These children are not just statistics - they are innocent lives, full of hope and potential. They deserve a chance to grow up in peace and safety. Let us not forget the children of Palestine and the impact this conflict has on their young lives. Let us work towards a future where all children can thrive, regardless of their background or nationality. #PalestinianChildren #ChildrenOfWar #IsraeliPalestinianConflict #HumanRights #PeaceForAll

According to UNHCR's February report, children aged between 0-17 make up over half (52%) of the refugee population in Kenya. At Tdh Kenya, we believe every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment to thrive. That's why we work tirelessly to provide vital support to refugee children and their families. Here's how we help: Child protection: We ensure children are safe from violence, exploitation, and abuse. Psychosocial support: We offer counseling and support services to help children heal from trauma and cope with displacement. Child-friendly spaces: We create safe spaces where children can play, learn, and be themselves. Together, we can give refugee children the chance for a normal childhood. #TdhKenya #Refugees #ChildrensRights #EveryChildDeservesAChildhood

Reports indicate that approximately 70% of the people killed in Gaza are women and children, underscoring the severe impact of the ongoing conflict on civilians. With escalating violence and limited access to essential resources, families are increasingly vulnerable, especially as health and humanitarian aid services struggle to keep up with the surging casualties. International organizations and human rights advocates are calling for immediate measures to protect civilians, citing the devastating toll on innocent lives and the long-term trauma that will affect generations. Many are urging both local and global leaders to intervene and prioritize humanitarian solutions to prevent further loss of life and to protect vulnerable populations. #GazaCrisis #ProtectCivilians #HumanitarianAid #SaveGaza #PeaceForGaza

Displacement can sound like a serious but short term consequence of conflict and humanitarian disaster. Nothing could be further from the truth. On average, a person who is displaced in 2024 can expect to spend 20 years in displacement, as opposed to 9 years, if displaced during the 1990s. If not mitigated, the scale of displacement in West and Central Africa, as in Sudan, predicts seismic long term disruption to the lives and prospects of hundreds of thousands of child citizens of the African continent.
‘“The largely forgotten crisis in the central Sahel remains one of the worst humanitarian emergencies in the world, made even more devastating by the fact that this is a children’s crisis hitting one of the youngest populations in the world. Millions of children are living in displacement fleeing from unimaginable deadly violence. These children were already living in one of the most challenging places to grow up in the world before losing their homes, their communities and everything that they knew’ #sahel #humanitariancrisis #childsrights #displacedchildren Ilaria Manunza Benoit Delsarte Siaka Ouattara Emmanuel DORI Dagnimisom valerie Sorgho/Koutou Irina MORDVINTSEVA Amavi Akpamagbo Famari Barro Gabriella Waaijman David Wright Rotimy Djossaya Ebrima Saidy
