Kindergarten is blossoming! An invitation is extended to each child to create individual art pieces that reflected their view of the day’s rhythm and what they considered important. Focusing intently on depicting various moments that make up a typical day at kindergarten. One’s participation in the art project highlights significant aspects of self-expression and understanding of daily routines, core elements promoted by the Reggio Emilia approach, which appreciates the environment as a powerful facilitator of learning. By representing their perception of the day’s rhythm, the children are not merely engaging in an artistic endeavour; they are also reflecting on and processing their experiences throughout the day. This act of reflection is crucial as it helps deepen their understanding of time concepts and personal significance of various daily activities. The intensity of strokes might provide insights into one’s emotional responses to these daily experiences, offering a closer look at the child’s personal and emotional development. These are to be displayed accessible to children. Full disclosure: this has been explored by other ECE professionals previously, therefore I am not taking credit for this idea. What does ‘Place’ mean to a child?  Our recent Windows of Thinking exhibition gave our Early Learning Centre students the stage to share their answers in their own words and imaginations! When we talk about ‘Place’ at Bialik, it’s more than a location; it’s a space that fosters creativity, wonder and connection. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and our Jewish values, our campus is designed to be a third teacher alongside our educators and families. From Fibonacci swirls in our Children’s Centre to curated learning corners, every detail supports each child’s growth. Our educators know that every child sees the world differently and this exhibition highlights those unique perspectives. It’s more than art; it’s a window into the minds of our young learners, capturing their curiosity, theories and collaborative spirit. Each piece reflects the big ideas explored this year, from science and math to language, literacy and Jewish studies, sparking meaningful connections and respect for different perspectives. Parents and families have been part of the journey too, as active contributors to our theme of ‘Place’.
