Boluda Corporación Marítima has continued its steady expansion programme with the acquisition of Finland’s Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering (YHB), consolidating the Spanish towing giant’s presence in Northern Europe. The acquisition will see Boluda entering the Scandinavian market so it can serve its clients in the Gulf of Bothnia. It will add six tugs, five of which are ice-classed, to its fleet operating in the ports of Kokkola, Vaasa, Raahe and Kemi. Kokkola in particular has grown significantly in the last decade, becoming one of the largest facilities in Finland with significance for the mining industry alongside handling dry bulk, chemicals and timber cargoes. The move will add YHB’s experience of towing operations in the extreme conditions of the Baltic, where ice and low temperatures require the knowledge and expertise of the Finnish company’s crews to perform manoeuvres ‘safely and efficiently’. “This purchase is a further step in our consolidation in Northern Europe, a complex market where the experience and expertise of the crews are key to carry out towing and marine salvage operations in extreme conditions,” said Boluda president Vicente Boluda Fos. “In addition, we are opening the Scandinavian market, providing coverage to our customers in the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea.” Read the full story on Maritime Journal; https://lnkd.in/eA7f_6_A

🚢 Transka Tankers Orders Four MR1 Tankers from Wuhu Shipyard! 🚢 On June 28th, Wuhu Shipyard signed a contract with the renowned Turkish shipowner, Transka Tankers, for the construction of four 40,800-ton MR1 oil/chemical tankers. These vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2027, with two of them being built at #Wuhu Shipyard's Weihai base. Designed by CSSC-SDARI and classified by the 必维国际检验集团 Veritas, these ships boast a length of 180 meters, a width of 32 meters, and a depth of 16.5 meters. They comply with the EEDI III standards, featuring larger cargo capacity, lower fuel consumption, and eco-friendly characteristics compared to older models. Transka Tankers, part of the Akbasoglu Group, is a long-established Turkish shipping family with interests in #energy, #tourism, and #shipbuilding. They currently own over a dozen various tankers, focusing on the Handysize/ #MR1 #product tanker segment. This new order marks their return to Chinese shipyards after 20 years, aiming to replace their aging fleet. Globally, there are approximately 300 MR1 product tankers with deadweights between 35,000 and 40,000 tons. Nearly two-thirds were built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard between 2005 and 2010. With an average fleet age of 16 years and upcoming environmental regulations like EEXI, CII, and EU ETS, there's potential for a supply-demand gap in this segment. MR1 tankers are primarily operated in the Black Sea, Mediterranean, Europe, and West Africa. Boutilier Group of Companies, which currently owns the historic Lunenburg Shipyard and the nearby East River Shipyard. The Mi'kmaq band says it plans to establish a subsidiary called Glooscap Defence, which will focus on making the band the largest Indigenous defence contractor in Canada. Glooscap First Nation can be found halfway between the Nova Scotia towns of Wolfville and Windsor. It has 436 registered members, about 100 of which live off reserve, according to federal statistics. Glooscap Ventures oversees several businesses in retail, seafood, renewable energy and consulting. Glooscap Seafood, for example, has divisions in harvesting, processing and sales of lobster, tuna and clams.
