Embracing the Title: Undertaker After hearing Reverend Eugene F. Wagner speak at the NFDA Service of Remembrance, I was moved to reconsider the title I carry. His words resonated deeply with me, and today, I’m making a change: I’m no longer calling myself a “Funeral Director,” but rather an “Undertaker.” The word “undertaker” captures the essence of what I do. I undertake the work that others can’t or won’t. It’s more than just planning a service—it’s about stepping into moments of profound grief and uncertainty, caring for those who have passed, and supporting the families left behind. Being an undertaker is a responsibility I don’t take lightly. It’s about honoring life, death, and the journey in between with respect and compassion. The title feels more aligned with my commitment to those I serve, reflecting both the gravity and the trust placed in me. This shift isn’t just about words; it’s about the deeper meaning behind the work I do every day. #Undertaker #DeathCare #ChangingTheTitle #CompassionInAction #GriefSupport #NFDA

Opportunity. Today is the last day to apply for the next cohort! In the words of my great grandmother Josephine Little Hurst, “don’t tarry too long in doubt, you got to move”. There are many meaningful things I learned as a member of #cohortVI with BLCK VC institute. One that replays in my head consistently is that ‘if I have the fundamentals in place I can make my vision a reality.’ #BVI gives you the fundamentals of #venturecapital and a network of brilliant professionals to help you execute.
Ever wondered what it's like to be part of the BVI family? 💭 Denise Smith (she/her/hers), a member of our founding cohort, had this to say about it:

📊 The Facts are Clear 📊 ASWB’s own data indicates that the initial licensing exam disproportionately impacts people of color, who have significantly lower pass rates compared to their white counterparts. Nationwide, 56% of graduates who fail the exam are either Black or Latino. It's time for New York State to address these discrepancies and ensure equity in social work licensing!
