The illusion of infinite growth: Exploring Low-Tech philosophy I recently had the chance to participate in the La Fresque des Low-techs, a collaborative workshop that challenges the illusion of infinite growth in a world with finite resources. It highlighted the limitations of our current economic model and the urgent need for a shift towards #sustainability that respects planetary boundaries. #LowTech isn't about rejecting technology—it's about using it more wisely. This technocritical approach encourages a societal transformation, focusing on practical, human-centered solutions rather than endless high-tech complexity. Key principles of Low-Tech: 💡 Utility: Solutions that address real needs, an essential aspect of eco-design. 💡 Accessibility: Ensuring sustainable technologies are available and adaptable for everyone. 💡 Durability: Creating systems that last, minimizing environmental impact and resource consumption. The workshop was a reminder that the path to sustainability isn't about more technology, it’s about better technology. It’s about aligning innovation with the needs of people and the planet.

last week we ran a very successful CircularB training school on circular economy (through the lens of multiple concepts, complex systems, and multi scales) and we all actively participated in #CESARE24 the international conference on coordinating engineering for sustainability and resilience… the platform showcases novel findings and thought-provoking world-class keynote lectures where open and inclusive collaboration and knowledge sharing took place… Indeed, 21 of the next generation circular economy (CE) talents will be the new force to drive CE implementation throughout every stage of asset lifecycle sustainably and globally… Many thanks to CircularB, COST Association - European Cooperation in Science and Technology, Universitatea Politehnica din Timişoara and many participants across EU… #circulareconomy #circularity #sustainability #lifecycle #SDGs #builtenvironment #buildings

Companies want to do something, but don’t know what the right first step is. Having done many courses on sustainability and helped companies develop their strategy for sustainability, last week, I completed a training course on COSIRI, the Consumer Sustainability Industry Readiness Index, from The International Centre for Industrial Transformation. This framework for evaluating where you are now across 24 dimensions is comprehensive and also offers a prioritisation matrix to identify what are the next 5 things that are right for you as a company to work on. This was delivered by the team at MIDASDX.COM DX and is now my go to for creating a meaningful roadmap for sustainability. Check out the framework and video's, it is well worth it.
