When you're hosting a social event, have you ever thought about how to make it inclusive and accessible for everyone? It's time to become the ultimate event planner and create an experience that leaves no one behind. Start by sending out accessible invitations. Offer different ways for people to RSVP, like email, phone, or text. And don't forget to share information about the venue's accessibility features. Choose a location that's easy for everyone to access. Look for places with ramps and wide doorways. And make sure there are accessible bathrooms nearby. Think about activities that everyone can enjoy. Set up games and entertainment that cater to different abilities. Make sure everyone can participate and have a great time. Food is important, too. Consider different dietary needs when planning the menu. Have options for vegetarians, vegans, and those with allergies or gluten sensitivities. Clear communication is key. Train your staff to be helpful and knowledgeable about accessibility. Create a welcoming atmosphere where guests feel comfortable expressing their needs. Embrace diversity and encourage connections. Make sure everyone feels valued and included. Spark conversations and celebrate our shared humanity. Remember, hosting an inclusive event is about more than just checking off boxes. It's about creating an environment where everyone feels welcome. By following these simple strategies, you can make your gathering unforgettable for everyone who attends. So, let's party with purpose and create an inclusive experience that everyone will cherish! The holidays bring an 𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 of social gatherings, and if you’re hosting, there’s a good chance you’ll be stepping up to the mic. Whether you’re welcoming guests or introducing entertainment, here are five practical tips to ensure you shine: 𝟭. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Don’t wait for everyone to arrive—some guests may be late or leave early. Aim to speak toward the latter half of the first hour, once your audience has settled but before the peak socializing begins. 𝟮. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 Thank your guests for choosing to spend their time with you, and acknowledge key contributors. Gratitude fosters goodwill and sets a warm, inclusive tone. 𝟯. 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 Focus on human stories rather than corporate achievements. Instead of diving into numbers or business updates, highlight small wins, acts of teamwork, or individual contributions. 𝟰. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗜𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 Your audience didn’t come for a long speech. Keep your remarks concise, engaging, and to the point. A shorter, well-delivered speech will leave a lasting impression. 𝟱. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘆) Practice your remarks until they feel natural and keep a glass of water nearby to avoid dry mouth. Save the wine or cocktails until after you’ve stepped away from the mic—you’ll feel sharper and more in control. With these tips, you’ll command the room with confidence, keep the festivities on track, and create a memorable moment for your guests. What are your go-to tips for speaking at holiday events? Are you enjoying holiday party season as much as I am? I’ve been out almost every night, reconnecting with people I’ve met over the years and meeting plenty of new faces. While it’s been a bit tiring, it’s also been a ton of fun! Here’s a quick tip for maximizing the value of these events: 🎯 The Morning After Strategy When you wake up (hopefully after a good night’s sleep), jot down the names of everyone you saw or met the night before. 🎯 Send a Quick Follow-Up A simple message like: “Great to see you at [Event Name] last night! Let’s set up a time to catch up in January.” This little effort goes a long way in keeping the connections alive and turning them into meaningful opportunities. Thanks to this strategy, my January calendar is already filling up with calls, Zooms, and in-person meetings. It’s a great way to start the new year strong! What’s your go-to holiday party follow-up strategy?
