Last week, we had a fantastic time at the Space Tech Expo Europe in Bremen 🛰️🚀 During our time there, we connected with many interesting people and companies, sharing insights and exploring potential collaborations. One of the highlights was meeting with Tom Sprowitz from DLR Institut für Raumfahrtsysteme, one of our PL partners from SOURCE. Of course, we couldn’t miss the chance to snap our annual photo with our namesakes, KSAT – Kongsberg Satellite Services. It’s become a fun tradition for us! Another fun surprise this year was the appearance of the first KSat-NewSpace Systems Alien roaming around the venue. It sparked a lot of curiosity and laughter—can you guess who was under the costume? On our way back to Stuttgart we watched the lessons learned webinar of the CubeSat 3Cat-4 of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Like SOURCE they are also part of European Space Agency - ESA‘s Fly Your Satellite! program and they gave us interesting lessons to consider developing our CubeSats. Overall, it was an incredibly engaging week filled with inspiration and innovation. We left feeling inspired and can’t wait to see everyone again next year! 🌌🚀 #SpaceTechExpo #Networking #Cubesat #Stundentproject

Try to put 2 parts together. Like a bottle and a cap. That seems easy, but variation causes problems. Try to put a rocket or satellite together with thousands of parts. That is a real challenge. Dr. Deming taught us to mind the variation in parts causing assembly problems. Now imagine you do that with a group of companies; an eco-system like NL Space. That is an outstanding performance. Complements to West End and all the partners of NL Space. A great joined effort. To support the concept please send me a short message and you will receive the slides showing this eco-system as a model. The better you work together, the better the performance. Instead of the opposite: working in silo's causing sub-optimization. Do you recognize this? Are departments in your organisation working together based on a joined purpose? Or has each department its own targets? https://lnkd.in/d8mrVSbJ

OHB Italia S.p.A. AT CLEAN SPACE DAYS: ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE SPACE MISSIONS OHB Italia participated with Dr. Tharek Mohtar, to the #CleanSpaceDays at #ESTEC from October 8th to 11th, an event dedicated to professionals and enthusiasts committed to the #sustainability of space missions. But what does OHB Italia bring to this topic? OHB Italia is leading a consortium to develop the Grappling and Docking Interface (#GDI) for ESA’s "In-Space Proof-of-Concept 1" (InSPoC-1) mission, aimed at enabling safer and more sustainable space operations. So, what exactly is a GDI? A Grappling and Docking Interface (GDI) is a system that securely connects two spacecraft, such as a satellite and a service vehicle. This interface enables a stable link between the vehicles to support material transfer, repairs, or in-orbit refueling and maintenance. Think of it as a “grip” or “hook” that keeps the vehicles connected and precisely aligned, even under challenging conditions like speed variations or slight misalignments. Systems like these are critical for the future of in-orbit satellite and space station management, enabling efficient maintenance without returning vehicles to Earth. Recently, OHB Italia S.p.A. completed Phase B1 of the GDI project, testing two interface prototypes to confirm their capture capabilities under different conditions. The flexible design allows for handling payloads of various sizes. Tests conducted in a space-simulating facility proved the GDI’s reliability, even with misalignments and variable speeds. The data collected refined our simulation models, moving the project forward into Phase B2 with greater accuracy. #OHBItalia #SpaceSustainability #DockingInterface #SpaceInnovation #SustainableSpace #InOrbitServicing #SpaceTechnology #ESA #InSpaceConcept #NewSpace www.ohb-italia.it

The Future of Space Transportation 🚀 Last month, the Space Transportation HUB members, along with experts from European Space Agency - ESA and CNES, have joined forces to envision the future of space transportation! In collaboration with Matrice, the HUB hosted several micro-residencies as part of our prospective project on space transportation by 2050. This initiative allowed us to explore various scenarii that could shape the future of our industry. Here are the four scenarii we developed: 🔹 Trend-based scenarii: 1. The EU as a model for space management - Envisioning the European Union as a key player in space management, contributing to a comprehensive framework of regulations, collaborative initiatives, and sustainable practices. 2. Space Transportation as a service - Exploring the potential of space travel becoming a routine service, much like aviation today. 🔹 Disruptive scenarii: 3. Space for Heirs - Considering a future where humanity renounces space exploration and manned flight programs. 4. Space for Earth - Developing new narratives that emphasize the benefits of space exploration for Earth's sustainability. These scenarii not only highlight possible futures but also identify the current challenges we need to address to make space transportation more efficient and sustainable. As a space transportation actor, if you want to be part of our next round of reflections, we invite you to send us your motivation! Together, let's shape the future of space transportation!! #SpaceTransportationHUB #FutureOfSpace #ESA #CNES #Innovation #vision #SpaceExploration #2050 Airbus Defence and Space, AndroMach, ARIANESPACE, ASTech Paris Region, THE CT ENGINEERING GROUP, GTD, Hybrogines, Infinity Space Providers, Latitude, MaiaSpace, ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab, PARIS-SACLAY HARDWARE ACCELERATOR, Sogeclair, Starburst Aerospace, Thales Alenia Space, BEBLUE Cryotech SA, RIDE! space

A breakthrough collaboration between Spacemanic, Blue Origin and Amaranthine Books has sent a handful of miniature 2001: A Space Odyssey monoliths to space and back aboard an uncrewed New Shepard flight 🚀 Joining 11 other payloads aboard the NS-27 mission, the monoliths experienced several minutes of weightlessness before returning to Earth. Why is this important? It highlights the adjacent value that commercial space travel companies bring to unexpected markets, space-flown artifacts being one of them. A big thank you to Spacemanic, Blue Origin and Amaranthine Books for inspiring this post and for pushing the definition of what space-flown artifacts can be. A link to Spacemanic's writeup of the mission is in the comments ▶️▶️▶️ _______ 𝗢𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 I'll be attending Space Tech Expo Europe with the UK Government delegation Department for Business and Trade. Send me a DM if you'd like to meet up 🛰️ See you there! #spaceindustry #commercialspace #branddesign #SpaceTechExpo #launch

Ireland was once home to the world's largest telescope. Now Ireland is the world's hub of aircraft funding and trading. Absolutely no reason why Ireland can not become a world's hub of space economy one day. Enterprise Ireland has just published the "Space Activities in Ireland 2023" report: https://lnkd.in/eSap-_iU You can find out what Irish companies are doing in space, in supporting space activities, or in utilising space resources. Key milestones for 2023: - Ireland's first satellite launched to space by University College Dublin team; - Irish Space Association has been established; - 109 Irish companies were actively engaged with European Space Agency - ESA in various space projects 2023 was a very important year for iDare Space Travel Limited, too. Business and customer validation of our "space travel agency" concept was our main goal. We presented our business model at many meetings and at several international space events. Our presence at the Paris Space Week in March 2023 has been noticed, and noted on page 21 of this report. Image: courtesy of Pexels & Maicon Vinicius
