Perhaps you’re thinking, “What am I going to say when someone asks why I’m not drinking?” or “How am I going to handle the pressure to have a beer at the barbecue party?” 🤔 Not to worry, with the right strategies outlined in our 'Handling social events' workbook, you can confidently navigate these situations without feeling left out. Dear Santa, my wish this Christmas is for everyone to find what truly makes them come ALIVE and find a way to do that. The world needs the unique gifts we each bring to thrive. Finding and doing what makes us come alive doesn't always require an overhaul of our lives. Often, it starts with quiet reflection; taking stock of where we are, who we’ve become, and where we want to go. And what better time to do this than in the final days of the year? Last year, I came across a framework with 6 questions that if you answer truthfully would help set you up for years. If you've read till here, well done 👏🏾. It works try it: Looking back ( Where am I today?): 1️⃣ What were the highlights of your year? - This helps remind us of the full breadth of our experiences - not just a snapshot. 2️⃣ What were the hardest aspects of your year? - If you’re stuck, try breaking it down into categories: health, relationships, purpose, fun, etc. 3️⃣ What did you learn about yourself? - This one can feel revealing or even uncomfortable, but the insights are worth it. Looking ahead (What could the future be like?): 4️⃣ What can I stop doing, and why? 5️⃣ What can I start (or restart) doing, and why? 6️⃣ What can I continue doing, and why? That final “why” is key because, it ties our actions to intrinsic motivations, making them more sustainable even when challenges arise (and they will 😊). As with most things, what you put into this exercise will determine what you get out of it. So, Santa, if you’re reading this, my wish is simple: help us all unwrap the gift of our true potential. Well, it’s officially the holiday season. A time for families, gifts, season-exclusive playlists, large and elaborate meals, thought-provoking lawn inflatables, and a variety of other idiosyncratic, completely fabricated traditions. I'm talking about Castlemas, of course. As you may know, Castlemas Eve is the second Friday of December. It marks the moment when Cornelius the Christmas Dragon and his dear friend Parmesan fly down from the North Pole and deliver gifts to kids around the world. Not just any gifts, mind you. Everyone receives a geode, a thunderegg or really any kind of cool rock/gem wrapped in a pair of festive socks. “𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒚 𝒑𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒔 – 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒔, 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒖𝒔!” a child might exclaim on Castlemas Day morning. Traditional Castlemas meals include pasta for dinner (dealer’s choice) and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. And typically, a couple very large inflatable dragons holding candy canes and/or gift boxes appear in the celebrants’ front yard. If this all sounds familiar, that would be... unexpected. See, about five years ago, our family invented the holiday and all the traditions surrounding it. Not because the existing holidays are too commercial or even that they’re connected to religious traditions we don’t practice. No, we just thought it would be more fun and true to the spirit of how we engage with the world. And it is! Seriously tho, if you’re connected to me in any way, you’re probably not here for the solopreneur growth hacks or thinly veiled sales pitches. But in the event that you’re wondering why I’m posting about Castlemas, here’s the elevator pitch: I’m posting this so that you’ll have something different in your feed. Because in the world of LinkedIn, where every connection is just a couple days away from an ambitious stranger trying to sell you (and everybody else on here) a potential “collaboration.” Where (allegedly) you can make $25k a month as a ghostwriter or post your way into retirement-grade passive income. Where people have created entire personalities based on posting other people’s work while explaining that content used to be better. And where certain words, punctuation marks, turns of phrase and wacky imagery tell you more about the OP’s perspective on ChatGPT than whatever the content of the post actually is. This platform tends toward sameness rather than variation (tho I'm not sure how it categorizes people complaining about how there isn’t enough variation 🫠). And you deserve something different – because it’s the holidays after all, and you’ve earned it.
