We are proud to have represented our institute at the 27th SPEEDAM conference in Ischia, Italy. With a delegation of 13 people, we were one of the largest German teams at this prestigious event. I’m thrilled to have presented two papers at the prestigious IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference 2024 this year. A big thank you to my colleague Dr. Álvaro Paz Anaya whose collaboration and insights were invaluable in making these papers a success. I’d also like to express my gratitude to my supervisor, Prof. Jouni Mattila for his unwavering guidance and support throughout this project. We presented two papers: Paper 1: System-Level Performance Metrics Sensitivity of an Electrified Heavy-Duty Mobile Manipulator: This paper dives into the sensitivity of key performance metrics in an electrified heavy-duty mobile manipulator (HDMM) driven by electromechanical linear actuators (EMLAs). We evaluated power delivery, force dynamics, energy consumption, and efficiency of the actuation mechanisms under various payload conditions. Our research provides insights for selecting or designing EMLAs in HDMMs, particularly for improving battery capacity and actuation system selection. Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/dzurAsHt Paper 2: Energy-Cautious Designation of Kinematic Parameters for a Sustainable Parallel-Serial Heavy-Duty Manipulator Driven by Electromechanical Linear Actuators: Our second paper tackles the optimization of kinematic parameters for a heavy-duty mobile manipulators actuated with EMLAs. By focusing on a common closed kinematic chain configuration, we developed strategies to reduce energy consumption while maintaining manipulator capabilities. The study paves the way for greener automation by facilitating the replacement of hydraulic actuators with electromechanical ones, all validated through simulations on a commercially available manipulator. Excited to have our paper: "Design, analysis and experimental evaluation of a novel high-speed high-power Ferrite IPM machine for traction applications" been published in IEEE Transaction on Industry Application. The paper presents the design and experimental evaluation of a novel (12000rpm, 80kW) Ferrite Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) machine for traction applications, benchmarked against a rare-earth IPM machine. A full-size prototype Ferrite IPM traction machine is developed, and tested, and it is shown that a maximum efficiency of 96% comparable to that of the benchmark machine can be achieved with about 23% lower material cost. More importantly, over the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) driving cycle, the Ferrite IPM traction machine exhibits about 30.67% less energy loss compared to the benchmark rare-earth IPM machine. https://lnkd.in/edMwwfwE

Ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals are true 3D fluids in which mechanical softness is combined with ferroelectric softness. The mechanical softness allows for the conversion of mechanical deformation of the container into complex and specific electric signals. We were delighted to attend the recent International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society conference, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, held on 1st February in La Rochelle, France. Exoes, represented by Jean Chevalier, prepared to share insights during this conference dedicated to the 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Jean identified several 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀. He noted that simulation plays a crucial role and is rapidly expanding in the design of both power electronics and batteries. He highlighted the 𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗚𝗮𝗡 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗖 in power electronics and noted 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Mobility industries are at the heart of these emerging technology developments. The points raised by Jean prompted questions about safety and the spread of thermal runaway, as well as the cost reduction opportunities offered by our technology. Today I presented two papers at the IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (iTEC 2024) in Chicago, USA. The papers are entitled "A High Torque Density Magnetic Geared Switched Reluctance Motor for In-wheel Applications", and "Design Optimisation and Torque Matching of a Magnetic Geared Switched Reluctance Motor for In-wheel Application". This is, in fact, the first magnetic geared SRM topology I have developed in my PhD and happens to be the first of its kind in the world. The corresponding patent bearing patent no. 496175 was granted earlier this year. 🌟Excited to share that my latest research paper titled "Enhanced Optoelectronic Traits of Monolayer h-BAs for Augmented NOx (NO and NO2) Gas Sensing" has been published in the prestigious IEEE Sensors Journal! I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my supervisors, Prof. Avirup Dasgupta and Prof. Amit Agarwal, for their invaluable support and guidance throughout this work. 📝 This research focuses on the effects of NOx (NO and NO2) gas molecules on the electronics and optical characteristics of hexagonal Boron Arsenide (h-BAs) monolayers. 📝We observe that Hexagonal Boron Arsenide is a good fit for sensing applications. This inference is drawn by a thorough analysis of the absorption spectrum (α), dielectric constant (ϵ1, ϵ2), band structure, charge transfer (QT), total density of states (TDOS), and adsorption energy (Eads) presented in this study. Energy harvesting from ambient sources has attracted considerable interest and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are the latest among the wide variety of harvesters reported in recent years. Whilst TENGs show notably high voltages, their outputs could be further enhanced with suitable nanofillers, as shown in this paper.
