🌍 International Day of the Girl Child: Empowering Girls in the Face of Climate Change 🌍 Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and potential of girls around the world. This year’s theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” highlights the urgent need to support and amplify the voices of girls as they navigate global challenges. At Eco-Justice Ethiopia, we recognize that climate change disproportionately affects girls, particularly those in vulnerable communities. The impacts of climate change—such as extreme weather events, food insecurity, unjust waste management and water scarcity—pose significant threats to their health, education, and overall well-being. Girls are often the first to feel the effects of climate-related disruptions. They may face increased risks of malnutrition, forced migration, and gender-based violence. Despite these challenges, girls continue to show incredible courage and hope for a better future. We are committed to addressing these issues through our zero waste initiatives and negotiation skills training programs. By promoting sustainable waste management policies that uphold social justice values and empowering young girls with the skills to advocate for their rights, we aim to create a more equitable and sustainable future. Let’s work together to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to thrive in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment. 🌱💪 #DayOfTheGirl #ClimateChange #GirlsRights #AACJ #Sustainability #EcoJusticeEthiopia

This week I've gotten to talk with practitioners and researchers about supporting young climate justice advocates and their mental health well-being in not one but two conferences The Australian Sociological Association and Western Australian Association for Mental Health More importantly young people who have been central to the co-creation of this new research and practice have been front and centre by either attending the conference or having their voices embedded in the presentations to share their lived experience and calls for action to adult policymakers, educators and activists who must listen to young people about their climate change concerns and experiences. #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #ClimateJustice
🌍 Supporting young climate justice advocates 🌍 Are you a young person, organiser, parent, educator, or mental health service provider passionate about climate justice? This article, featuring Kylie Wrigley from our Centre, is for you! A group of climate justice advocates in Western Australia has developed a collective care praxis, offering valuable insights into supporting youth activism and advocacy that is safe, effective, and sustainable. This is crucial as young people, in all their diversity, are disproportionately impacted by climate change, climate distress, and structural injustices. The article highlights how young people are uniquely positioned to lead the charge for climate justice. It also emphasizes the duty of care adults have in working together to ensure these young leaders are effective, well-resourced, and supported. Discover how collective care practices can help navigate the many structural challenges, risks, and stresses of climate change. Let’s work together to create a fair and safe future for all. Today's children are tomorrow's changemakers, yet their futures face significant challenges. With over 250 million children still out of school worldwide, it is paramount that nations focus their resources on ensuring that quality education is a right enjoyed by all children regardless of regional conflicts, climate disasters, and social inequalities. We must act now. This year's theme, Listen to the Future, urges us to hear children's voices and let their ideas inform today’s decisions. Let’s honor their voices and create a world where every child is free to dream, lead, and shape a brighter, more inclusive, and sustainable future. 🙏 Together, we can turn urgency into action and possibilities into realities.💙 #WorldChildrensDay #ListenToTheFuture
