This year, seven new consortia have started working on the key challenges from our National Knowledge Agenda for Logistics. These projects bring together researchers and companies to develop innovative, evidence-based solutions that contribute to making the Netherlands more sustainable, resilient, and circular. Thank you to everyone involved in making these collaborations possible. Here are a few highlights to showcase the range of this year’s projects: 1️ Balancing complexity and effectiveness in reducing drug shortages (RESPOND) led by Harwin de Vries, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University working together with Tilburg University, Bogin, BG Pharma, Vereniging Innovatieve Geneesmiddelen and GLN. 2️⃣ Improving AI-based decision making by developing and testing supply chain copilots (HOPE) led by Willem van Jaarsveld, Eindhoven University of Technology working with Tilburg University, ASML, Fokker Services Group and many others. 3️. Supporting sustainable modal shifts to zero-emission inland waterways for construction and demolition cargo (SYNERCIZE) led by Layla Martin, Eindhoven University of Technology working together with HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Hogeschool Utrecht), Hogeschool Rotterdam, KOTUG CityBarge and many others. We’d also like to extend our gratitude to the Program Committee (chaired by Sander de Leeuw) and the external reviewers for their valuable input in evaluating the project submissions. A special thanks to our Board (chaired by Robert Van der Waal) for their support, and to the dedicated team at TKI DINALOG for making this possible. Looking ahead, we have a new call open and several more planned for 2025. Stay tuned for updates. Wishing you all a restful holiday season and a successful start to 2025. #Innovation #Sustainability #Collaboration #Logistics #CircularEconomy

The AUTO-TWIN Project will be presented by our coordinator Prof. Andrea Matta (Politecnico di Milano) during The Manufacturing Partnership Days, in Brussels, organised by the European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA). THE MANUFACTURING PARTNERSHIP DAYS 🗓️ 7 & 8 May 2024 🌍 BRUSSELS (BE) 🔗 https://bit.ly/4deMLFs ↪ Following the success of last year's Manufacturing Partnership Day, which welcomed over 400 stakeholders, the second edition of the event will be a two day event focused on Made In Europe and Factories of the Future projects. The event will focus on manufacturing excellence, resilience, and circularity. Beyond the project presentations, EFFRA will host an exhibition space where different projects can showcase their work. The AUTO-TWIN Project ( one of the project within the AI4MANUFACTURING community) will be here with its data-driven method based on a process mining approach for Automated Digital Twin generation, operations, and maintenance in circular value chains. The wait is over! Our book chapter titled "The Roles of Makerspaces for Facilitating Open-Source Hardware Development" with Margit Hofer and Robert Mies is now published as part of the book Global collaboration, local production: Fab City als Modell für Kreislaufwirtschaft und nachhaltige Entwicklung published by Springer Gabler. The chapter shed light on how Fab labs/makerspaces, as openly accessible facilities with Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and local communities of makers, have the potential to act as catalysts to mature and disseminate #Open_Source_Hardware (OSH) local development of products and services collaboratively. As part of the #EU_Horizon_2020 project OPENNEXT, 17 SMEs joined forces with our four makerspaces clusters in Amsterdam Waag Futurelab, Berlin Prototypes for Europe , Copenhagen Maker, and Vienna Happylab to experiment on new pathways for OSH co-creation, providing a needed model towards a circular economy and sustainable development. I'm excited to share my latest publication, Achieving Sustainability by Additive Manufacturing: A State-of-the-Art Review and Perspectives, recently featured in Virtual and Physical Prototyping (https://lnkd.in/grNU3i6H). This comprehensive review paper overviews the transformative potential of additive manufacturing (AM) in addressing global challenges such as resource scarcity and environmental impact. From optimizing material usage during design to adopting circular economy principles like repair and recycling after production, AM presents a holistic approach to sustainable manufacturing. Our work highlights innovative strategies, including topology optimization, closed-loop control, and the use of sustainable materials, to enhance material efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and minimize environmental impact. Additionally, we explore the integration of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to further bolster AM’s role in achieving sustainability goals. This work is the result of a collaborative effort, and I would like to sincerely thank my co-authors Dr. Wei Long Ng, Dr. Jia An, Prof. Wai Yee Yeong, Prof. Chee Kai Chua, as well as my postdoctoral supervisor Prof. Swee Leong Sing for their valuable contributions.

The Role of Design in Sustainable Products and Business Practices: 1. Design with Purpose Start by understanding the environmental impact of materials. Choose sustainable options. 2. Innovate for Longevity Create products that last longer. This reduces waste and promotes a circular economy. 3. Embrace Minimalism Less is more. Use fewer resources to create functional and elegant designs. 4. Educate Consumers Inform your customers about the benefits of sustainable products. Knowledge can drive responsible choices. 5. Collaborate with Eco-friendly Partners Work with suppliers who prioritize sustainability. This strengthens the entire supply chain. 6. Implement Green Practices Adopt eco-friendly methods in your business operations. This includes energy efficiency and waste reduction. 7. Measure and Improve Regularly assess the sustainability of your products and practices. Continuous improvement is key to long-term success. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Video by MIT on Award Winning Artist Olafur Eliasson and his residency at MIT in 2014.
