A big global news: the nature-based policies of many countries around the planet have doubled in the past year! A report by Inevitable Policy Response (IPR) shows that governments have started focusing on reducing carbon emissions by aiming to end deforestation and restore ecosystems. This is definitely a positive sign of the journey towards a sustainable world. Not just the consumers but the businesses and the governments too have started to accept their environmental responsibilities. Check out this article for more details and share your opinions in the comments. #sustainability #governmentpolicies #environment #greenplanet https://lnkd.in/gn-8PjAF

We are proud to announce that our new climate targets for 2030 have been approved by Science Based Targets initiative. These climate targets include reducing emissions throughout the chain. Together with our sister company Berries Pride, we are the first importers of fruit and vegetables to commit to chain-wide reduction goals. This is a significant milestone in our efforts to care for nature and realise a more sustainable chain. In recent years, Nature’s Pride and Berries Pride have taken significant steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This focused primarily on company operations and transport. We have worked on increasing packaging sustainability, implementing the transition to green energy sources, valorising food waste for human and animal consumption and incorporating sustainable transport solutions. By applying chain-wide targets we will now collaborate with our growers to reduce agricultural emissions, also known as FLAG targets. #enjoytodaychangingtomorrow #careforpeopleandnature

Achieving #netzero #emissions in the #palmoil industry involves several significant challenges: 1. **#Deforestation**: Despite progress, the palm oil industry is still responsible for around 10% of global deforestation¹. Reducing and eventually eliminating deforestation is critical to achieving net-zero emissions. 2. **Sustainable Land Management**: Implementing sustainable land management practices is essential but challenging. This includes maintaining soil health, preventing land degradation, and ensuring biodiversity¹. 3. **#Methane Emissions**: Capturing methane emissions from palm oil mills and converting them into energy is a complex but necessary step¹. Methane is a potent #greenhouse gas, and its management is crucial for reducing overall emissions. 4. **Renewable Energy Adoption**: Transitioning to renewable energy sources for palm oil production processes can be difficult due to the initial investment costs and infrastructure requirements¹. 5. **Carbon Removals**: Implementing effective carbon removal strategies, such as reforestation and soil carbon sequestration, is essential but requires coordinated efforts and long-term commitment¹. 6. **Supply Chain Transparency**: Ensuring transparency and responsibility throughout the supply chain is challenging but necessary to verify sustainable practices and reduce emissions³. 7. **Consumer Sentiment and Market Demand**: Addressing negative consumer sentiment and increasing demand for sustainably produced palm oil can be difficult. Educating consumers and promoting certified sustainable palm oil are key steps⁴. 8. **Climate Resilience**: The palm oil crop system faces challenges related to climate resilience, including increased pests, diseases, and erratic weather patterns⁴. Nature-based policies from governments have doubled in the past 12 months, a new report has found. Around half of global emissions reductions by 2035 are likely to come from policies aimed at ending deforestation, reducing food waste, restoring ecosystems, lowering agricultural emissions and nature-based climate solutions. In the last 12 months, national policy announcements around reducing land-use emissions have doubled. But as the energy transition has risen rapidly up the corporate agenda, the role of nature, land and food in the climate transition remains underappreciated. Failing to invest in nature and land-based solutions could result in increased climate risk and huge costs for farmers, companies and the entire economy. Land use change contributes a large proportion of global emissions, and can deliver 30% of the required mitigation between now and 2030. According to the IPCC, we need to stop deforestation and ecosystem conversion by 2030, wiht significant progress by 2025. Now is the time to start taking this seriously. https://lnkd.in/eqQrJt-4 #LandUse #Nature #NBS #Emissions #GlobalWarming #Deforestation #Conversion #LandUseChange

Food loss and waste account for 8-10% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions – nearly five times the total emissions from the aviation sector – and contribute to substantial biodiversity loss, using up almost a third of the world’s agricultural land. It's another powerful example of why new national climate plans (also known as nationally determined contributions, or NDCs) due from all countries in 2025 must be economy-wide—taking all industries, supply chains, and actors into account. https://lnkd.in/dF_cRwEa

Meeting commitments to reduce greenhouse gas #emissions is a challenge for most companies. It's useful, then, to see what other organizations are doing to tackle the issue. The Trellis Group's case study on General Mills' process to create a #Climate Transition Action Plan really illuminates the all-hands-on deck, whole organization approach that is required to turn goals into specific actions. Their process is impressive and definitely worth the read! Dig into the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/dtBDGxXN #informative #goodread
