At dinner tonight with the eData practice heads of several AM LAW firms and in-house counsel at major corporations, the topic turned to GenAI’s impact on legal. Opinions ranged on the breadth, severity and timeline of GenAI’s impact on legal, but we all agreed that it is already happening and we’re only in its infancy. Not surprisingly, when I checked LinkedIn tonight, the below article - on exactly this topic - was waiting for me at the top of my feed. This excerpt, among several others, stood out to me in particular. #UFDISCO24 #artificialintelligence #legaltech “While some law firms are approaching Gen AI as an optional, nice-to-have technology, [Thomson Reuters’] research has found that change is likely to take place imminently. And within the next 10 years, the legal industry should expect wide-scale business model changes, as well as some disintermediation of lawyers in situations in which consumers eschew legal professionals altogether in favor of a technological option.”
