About Social Entrepreneurship #Socialentrepreneurs play a crucial role in addressing global challenges by combining #innovativebusiness strategies with a commitment to #socialchange. They create sustainable solutions to pressing issues such as poverty, #education, #empowerment, healthcare, and environmental degradation. Unlike traditional businesses, social enterprises prioritize #impact over profit, reinvesting earnings into their missions to foster systemic change. Their work not only improves individual lives but also strengthens communities, driving inclusive #economicgrowth and promoting #socialequity. In a world grappling with complex problems, social entrepreneurs are essential for fostering resilience, inclusivity, and sustainable development.

Social entrepreneurs are key to accelerating our progress as we strive to achieve the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals. With 10 million social enterprises generating $2 trillion globally and creating 200 million jobs, they demonstrate that real change is within reach. However, we need $1.1 trillion in funding to scale their impact. According to the Schwab Foundation, social entrepreneurs can be supported through funding, mentorship and capacity development. Investing in them can empower communities and create a more sustainable future for all. 🌏 What does it take to create sustainable impact through entrepreneurship? A recent event hosted by the Asia Community Foundation and featuring Peter Wuffli from elea, Zhihan Lee from BagoSphere, and Shuvavish Bhowmick from ATEC Global highlighted key strategies for building and supporting sustainable impact through entrepreneurship: ⏳ Long-Term Impact Requires Patient Capital: For businesses aimed at tackling issues like absolute poverty, especially in challenging sectors such as farming and micro-retail, patient capital is crucial. Investments need time to yield results, and setting realistic expectations on returns helps ensure long-lasting impact. 👤 Investing in People, Not Just Ideas: The value of a business starts with the people behind it. Thorough due diligence and building trust with entrepreneurs are essential for de-risking and aligning on goals. Ultimately, it is about supporting individuals who have both the passion and resilience to make a difference. 📊 Sustainable Business Models Are Key to Scaling: Achieving scalable impact requires financially sustainable models. Businesses in the impact space are increasingly focusing on financial viability, as it is the foundation for growing and amplifying their influence over time. It is inspiring to see how investing in the right people and providing the right kind of capital can drive change. 🌱 ➡️ Read more about how Asia Community Foundation's Impact Funds are driving sustainable impact across some of Southeast Asia's most pressing issues here: https://lnkd.in/gWqCCHHf #impactinvesting #impactentrepreneurship #patientcapital 📸: Asia Community Foundation

Last week, I had the privilege of speaking on a panel alongside Savinda Ranathunga and Xin Gao from UNDP, moderated by Mohamed Ageez, about strategies to empower young green entrepreneurs at the Global Initiative on #DecentJobsforYouth Global Conference organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO). At Youth Business International (YBI), we know that young green and social entrepreneurs are agents and leaders of change, creating vital economic and employment opportunities in the process. They have the potential to redefine the very fabric of our economy, ensuring that prosperity is not only measured in economic terms but also in the well-being of our societies and the health of our planet. The conference theme #YoungGreenDigital absolutely spoke to the heart of the key opportunities for #youngentrepreneurs to help solve for today's challenges. However, building a business that measures success not only in profit but impact comes with particular challenges that often make it harder for these young entrepreneurs to secure funding and support. This is why YBI, together with nine of our member organisations, developed our Green and Social Entrepreneurship Toolkit covering key areas like personal development, business ideation and modelling, and impact measurement, to support young green and social entrepreneurs to build successful, sustainable businesses. It was a great panel discussion - with UNDP playing a key role at inter-governmental and ecosystem level and Youth Business International (YBI) driving practical support for burgeoning green entrepreneurs. When provided with the right support, young entrepreneurs become a force for good, solving pressing environmental and social issues through their businesses. Youth Business International (YBI) advocates for: * Specialised support for young entrepreneurs whose businesses address social and environmental issues, including personal development and business skills training *Increased access to finance for youth-led social and environmental impact businesses that prioritise impact *Localised solutions – green and social businesses are often addressing local challenges and need support that is tailored to their context *Reduction of regulatory barriers for green and social young entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses It was great to connect with so many leaders and changemakers in the field of youth economic empowerment, and thanks to Susana Puerto and her team Jurriaan Middelhoff Maup van de Kerkhof Mia Seppo Kathleen Elsig Urmila Sarkar Ana Maria Peña Maud Seghers
