Aligning environmental metrics with the SDGs 🌎 This infographic presents a selection of key environmental metrics that can be aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to highlight the importance of sustainability in business practices. While these examples are not exhaustive, they serve to underscore the potential for corporate environmental reports to reflect a commitment to global sustainability targets. Transparent reporting of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions paves the way for credible climate action (SDG 13), showcasing a company's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint. The meticulous reporting of emissions and energy consumption—renewable or otherwise—can display adherence to SDG 7, underscoring the pursuit of affordable and clean energy through enhanced energy efficiency measures. The act of measuring and disclosing water consumption directly contributes to the objectives of SDG 6, emphasizing the sustainable management and efficient use of water resources. This not only signals corporate responsibility but also encourages the safeguarding of water as an invaluable communal asset. Furthermore, the generation and categorization of waste reported by corporations can lead to strategies that resonate with SDG 12, driving responsible consumption and production. It emphasizes the significance of not solely focusing on positive impacts but also recognizing and mitigating negative environmental footprints. Ultimately, the integration of such metrics into business strategy and communication underlines a transparent, accountable approach to sustainability. It illuminates the path for businesses to not only assess and report on their environmental performance but also to embed their commitment to sustainability within their core operations, thereby contributing constructively to the SDGs. #Sustainability is an evolution trip. Throughout the 20+ years that I've been tripping that trip, one thing is always certain: there will be something new next year! In the midst of this evolution frenzy, there are few uncontested standards that guide the work like a compass 🧭 Such are UN's Sustainability Development Goals, the single most important institution of the business. The vision set in 2015 is still - and maybe more so - relevant today. And even though attaining the #SDGs at global level by 2030 seems improbable today, the goals themselves are and will be a splendid tool for #Strategy mapping.

The fourth pillar of our B Corp assessment criteria focuses on 'Environment'. This impact area evaluates a company’s overall environmental management practices and its impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity. This section also recognizes companies with environmentally innovative production processes and those that sell products or services that have a positive environmental impact. The nature of Nijhuis Saur Industries UK and Ireland's services and #missionwater enabled us to qualify for the IBM (Impact Business Model) 'Resource Conservation', an additional scoring criteria reserved for crediting the positive impact of a business's very purpose. Being an advocate for water and helping clients achieve their sustainability goals proved instrumental in our scoring for this section. Our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2040 combined with our ISO 14001 certification for environmental management further cemented this notion. But it's important to maintain this focus on reducing our carbon footprint to achieve our goals and remind ourselves that being a certified B Corp is just the start of our sustainability journey. #BCorp #BCorpUK #sustainability
