Sound-off for FRIDAY DISPATCH!
Every Friday I’ll be posting a brief update about all things recruiting and staffing. It could be anything from what’s going on in the world of manufacturing, businesses/happenings specific to the Triad, spotlighting events or candidates, to ideas to combat workplace stress-we’ll see where it takes me!
This week: A recap of attending the Spartan Pro Day 2024
Spartan Planning Group held an awesome one-day conference with a group of speakers that spoke on diverse topics and held your attention from start to finish. I got to attend with Beth Milks, network with some really kind, like-minded leaders from the community, and enjoy what the presenters had to say! Can’t wait for next year.
I’ll highlight some of my personal takeaways from the day, but I absolutely recommend following each of these individuals on LinkedIn to learn more about them, their message, and their business.
Corinne Auman, Ph.D. spoke about the aging workforce and utilizing those who are post-retirement. She highlighted the knowledge and experience the aging workforce has, shared insightful statistics about where we are headed, and included age friendly policies, and hiring practices.
Steve Beck spoke about positive conflict-facing conflict head on, with a mindset that the problem is the problem, not the person. Striving to be curious instead of judgmental in the heat of the moment will help instead of hurt.
Emily Wilburn Andrews shared her insights about personal and business transitions-because she’s been through a lot! Her incredible story included growing in her faith, traveling the world to share the Word, to later return home to take over the family business (just in time for Covid to hit). She emphasized that through transitions we should embrace technology, diversity, your community, and your calling.
Dusty Holcomb focused on leadership and was captivating from start to finish. He included a ton of quotes (one of which is above) and book recommendations throughout, which was awesome! All of us are leaders in some way and aspect of our lives, so his talk was truly applicable to everyone.
