The rates of all STI's are exploding all across the developed and developing worlds,as always disproportionately affecting the young, the marginalised and certain socio-ethnic groups. it seems incredible that 'shame ' is listed as a cause time and time again in every article published. Gen Z have their battles to be sure but one thing we as Sexual Health Specialists thought they would escape was shame. Never has a generation had such access to information ,and peer information most importantly, thus one would imagine they would be the most informed of all the Gens' but we are missing something basic. A tiny minority of healthcare professionals have ever been trained let alone are comfortable taking a sexual history from their patients.. We were trained to focus on booze, ciggies and in later years recreational drug use . So a16 year old boy can leave a Doctors surgery with a full bill of health but with absolutely no idea the pill his girlfriend is taking won't stop either of them contracting a sexually transmitted infection. Syphilis,Super Gonorrhea and Herpes are back folks and we are running out of antibiotics ..We are all here because 2 people had sex. How difficult can it be to include as standard a sexual history in every patient's notes ?? they are slightly awkward questions but you can be 💯 sure your teenage in front of you wants to know the answers #sexualhistory #itsjustsex #allmedicshavearesponsibity #JUSTASK

Why is sexual health awareness important for women? - STI prevention: STIs can have serious consequences for women's reproductive health, including pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and cervical cancer. Understanding how STIs are transmitted and practicing safe sex can significantly reduce the risk of infection. - Empowerment: Knowledge about sexual health empowers women to make informed choices about their bodies and relationships. It fosters open communication with partners and healthcare providers, leading to safer and more satisfying sexual experiences. - Reduced anxiety: Uncertainty and misinformation about sexual health can cause anxiety and stress. Having accurate information and access to resources can alleviate these concerns and promote overall well-being. Promoting sexual health awareness: - Open communication: Talk openly and honestly with your partner(s) about sexual needs, concerns, and boundaries. Discuss STI testing and safe sex practices before engaging in sexual activity. - Regular checkups: Schedule regular checkups with your healthcare provider to discuss sexual health concerns, get tested for STIs, and receive appropriate guidance. - Reliable resources: Seek information from reputable sources like Planned Parenthood, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and trusted healthcare professionals. #womenshealth #womenempowerment #empoweringwomen #empowerwomenbyamal #sexualhealth

Great news! The Local Government Association is advocating for a 10 Year Sexual Health strategy to be released. This strategic approach aims to enhance overall sexual health services and outcomes. Cllr David Fothergill, Chairman of the LGA’s Community Wellbeing Board, said: “This is why we are calling for a new 10-year strategy to tackle infection rates, and ensure that sexual health services are properly funded and resourced in the long-term.” Ensuring proper funding for Sexual Health Services relies heavily on the presence of accurate and relevant data. This crucial information helps decision-makers understand the specific needs of communities, allocate resources effectively, and measure the impact of services provided. By emphasizing data collection and analysis, we can bridge gaps in healthcare access, tailor interventions to diverse populations, and prioritise initiatives that address pressing sexual health issues. Here at Signumology we celebrate 6 years of our I-Safe Sexual Health platform! We are proud to have supported 42,073 registered patients in accessing Sexual Health Screening services with a staggering 186,000 screening assessments being completed. The Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Annual Report was released today, highlighting a significant increase in reported cases of Gonorrhoea and Syphilis. The media has termed this a "surge" in STIs. While the data may suggest a rise in prevalence, it's crucial to recognize that more people are getting tested for STIs, and we are still addressing pandemic-related issues, such as limited access to sexual health clinics, which may also contribute to the reported increases. We must strive for a society where STI testing is a routine part of healthcare, where open conversations about sex are commonplace, and where condoms are recognized not only for their effectiveness in preventing STIs but also for enhancing sexual pleasure. Let's take action today: get tested, talk openly about sexual health, and find out about our free condom services. Together, we can create a future where sexual health is seen as being part of everyday health. https://lnkd.in/eSTk6aKN

Can menstrual cups reduce BV and STIs? 💡 A study in Kenya is investigating how reusable menstrual cups—specifically disc-style cups that can be worn during sex—may prevent bacterial imbalances, reduce infection risks, and support safer sexual practices during menstruation. This research focuses on economically vulnerable people who engage in sex for their livelihood. What stands out to me is how these products could address both menstrual management and safer sex. I love menstrual discs! As we continue to learn from these findings, they have the potential to shape the future of menstrual and sexual health, globally. At nixit, we believe menstrual products should fit into your life, not disrupt it. If you’re involved in menstrual health research or looking for partners on similar studies, let’s chat! #researchstudy #menstrualhealth #sexualhealth #menstrualcups https://lnkd.in/ewmihPXT

Now we don talk about sexual health, we wan talk about sexual dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction refers to problems that occur during sexual activity, making it difficult or impossible to enjoy sexual pleasure or intimacy. This can include issues like erectile dysfunction (trouble getting or keeping an erection), premature ejaculation (ejaculating too quickly), low libido (reduced desire for sex), and pain during sex. These problems can be caused by physical, emotional, or psychological factors, and can affect both men and women. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are illnesses that are spread through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Examples of STIs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. These infections can cause a range of symptoms, from mild discomfort to severe pain and long-term health problems. If left untreated, STIs can lead to serious complications, such as infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, and even cancer. It's important to practice safe sex, get regular testing, and seek medical attention if you suspect you may have an STI. By taking these steps, you can protect your sexual health and well-being. Calling Our Patients “High Risk” Hurts Them Dr. Joseph Cherabie puts their personal experience on the line to show why shaming people is a terrible prevention policy ― especially if you're nervous or already feeling badly about yourself. 1. Even though they are a doctor, when Cherabie pushes back against stigma they have been told, they must be risky because, "Why else would you be on PrEP?” 2. The very code for being prescribed PrEP reinforces this: “high-risk homosexual behavior” (ICD-10 code Z72.52) 3. Instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach to sexual health, let's drop the risk-based language and give individualized care to the person in front of you. "Being called risky or associated w risk b/c of your sexual health decisions makes most people feel ashamed. And that shame is nothing more than another barrier to care.
